The Audi R8 is the brand’s flagship with Lamborghini Gallardo roots. And while there’s no doubt that the 2014 R8 is a supercar, part of its appeal is that it’s also easy to drive normally, making its case as a daily driver. By all accounts, the R8’s styling is a homerun. It was one of the first models to feature Audi’s signature LED daytime running lights, while a unique and contrasting diagonal blade behind the door added a distinctive touch to the overall design.
The V-10 is the same engine used in the Lamborghini Gallardo which is a 5.2L V10 capable of 525bhp and 391ftlb of torque split at a very generous 15:85 per cent. It is a free-revving and highly robust engine that develops its power later in the rpm range, and to some degree, more frenetically. It remains virtually identical to the V-8 car through 200 lb. heavier, so the standard magnetorheological suspension has been stiffened accordingly to help handle the increased loads.
The view out of the front is fantastic and despite the mid-engine layout, visibility out the back is not too bad either. The 5.2-litre V-10 motor feels relaxed around crowded streets but you need a bit of restraint, especially when you know how much power there is on tap!
