Well, Jaguar has finally redeemed itself and upheld Britain’s national pride. The Jaguar F-type 400 Sport is, in every way, a legitimate 911 competitor. And yes, it is the more beautifully formed of the two. People literally get weak at the knees when they see it. Then you drive it…. Stomp the hair-trigger accelerator pedal and the coupe immediately transforms itself into the snarling, potent thing that its bulging rear fenders suggest. The supercharged 3.0-liter V6 sends 400BHP its power to all 4 wheels, just as a sports car should.
So, what is different about the 400 Sport compared to a standard F-Type? The changes involved in the 400 Sport are all positives. There’s an extra 20 horsepower under the hood (for a total of 400), enlarged brakes front and rear, a striking splitter, yellow “400 Sport” badges, and yellow contrast stitching within.
Oh, that engine. This engine is a gem even with the 380 hp on offer in a regular F-Type S, and it’s only improved by its power infusion in the 400 Sport. Vivacious and strong, the supercharged V6 is all the engine you need to have a blast. Involving chassis, taut suspension, a firm brake pedal, and talkative steering all make the F-Type as much fun to hustle around curves as it is to accelerate in a straight line. It’s got plenty of grip from the four wheels, lots of stopping power from those upgraded brakes, and all the eagerness to make you deliberately miss your turn on the drive home.
