Around the world, Motoring personnel\u00a0and enthusiasts\u00a0are claiming that Infiniti’s brand new and first Variable\u00a0Compression Ratio Engine is the most advanced motor ever to exist. Simply known as the VC-T engine, the Japanese brand has been brainstorming\u00a0and slowly building this mechanical wonder since 1998; that’s 16 years!<\/p>\n
With a displacement of 2-litres and comprised of four cylinders, VC-T engines produce around 270 horsepower with 390 Nm of torque thanks in part to a turbocharger. Infiniti states the new engine is 27% more economical than a standard petrol powerplant and just as efficient as its diesel counterpart. They also say that it tips the scales much lower than other four-cylinder motors.<\/p>\n
But what makes this engine so special? Thanks to revolutionary engine technology, each piston can be electronically controlled to specific heights in turn leading to better fuel economy as less substance would need to be thrown around. For example, by adjusting the engine to react to high-performance\u00a0driving or minimum fuel consumption, unique systems will change the compression and displacement ratio to 8:1 and 14:1 respectively.<\/p>\n
Set to debut in 2018, Infiniti\u00a0hasn’t finalised what vehicle will be the first to receive\u00a0the engine. Some sources point towards the QX50<\/a> while others point towards the QX80<\/a>.
