Do you remember\u00a0Lamborghini’s first attempt at an SUV? You probably don’t! Let me fill you in real quick, in 1986, Lamborghini created the LM002, more popularly named Rambo Lambo. Using\u00a0a massive 7.2 litre 12 cylinder petrol engine – the same one found in the Countach, it came equipped with leather seats, air conditioning and a premium sound system mounted to the roof. Only 328 were made with production ceasing in 1993, and are quite a rare sight. I saw one when I was younger here in the UAE and I was amazed the Italian manufacturer actually made an SUV.<\/p>\n

\"Lamborghini<\/a>Fast forward to 2012, at the Bejing auto show, wraps were taken off Lamborghini’s concept and took the crowd by storm. After this, the Urus sort of floated around with enthusiasts thinking it will be nothing but a concept with a poster on the wall, leaving them heartbroken. However in\u00a0May, 2015, company president Stephen Winkelmann officially\u00a0gave the green light to the Lamborghini Urus<\/a>, successor of the Rambo-Lambo.<\/p>\n

\"LamborghiniLuxury SUV’s are\u00a0proving to be extremely popular around the globe especially here in the United Arab Emirates, which is why Mr Winkelmann has decided to put the Urus into production. Other markets which are enjoying the luxury SUV category include China, the United States, Germany, Russia and other parts of the Middle East.<\/p>\n

\"Lamborghini<\/a>No official documents have been released of the construction of the outer shell of the SUV, seeing as the concept is made from carbon fibre, it won’t be a long shot if the final version incorporates light metal alloys such as aluminum combined with the highly durable fibre. Technology wise,\u00a0multiple cameras will be placed around the vehicle with wing mirrors supposedly replaced with TV screens, how futuristic is that! An adjustable rear spoiler improves aerodynamics with the press of a button. Inside it’s set to seat four occupants and judging by the pictures, terrain driving is limited to asphalt only.<\/p>\n

Underneath the bonnet is expected to be a modified version of Audi’s new turbocharged 8 cylinder 4.0-litre petrol engine working in conjunction with an electric motor with plug-in capabilities. Lamborghini has mentioned top speed will be in excess of 300 km\/h with\u00a0the engine producing 600+ horsepower and can propel the SUV from 0-100 km\/h in 3 seconds, that’s incredibly quick for an SUV. Power from the engine is sent to all four wheels.<\/p>\n

\"Lamborghini<\/a>Pricing starts at 233,771 USD (approx. 858,473 AED) with 3,000 units made per year, and will face many rivals on the road including Bentley’s and Maserati’s SUV. Both of these will beat Lamborghini to the road as they launch in 2017 as well as\u00a0Rolls Royce’s SUV which enters the market in 2018.<\/p>\n

Recently\u00a0Lamborghini announced that they had to make a choice between the Urus and Asterion (a\u00a0hybrid supercar), ultimately the Urus was the one they went for as it was a better business decision. Looks like there will be no 910 horsepower 5.2-litre V10 hybrid supercar. The hybrid system was said to produce 300 horsepower.<\/p>\n
