The average modern car has 6 to 8 speeds transmission, but General Motors decided to make a new 9-speed transmission to use it in 4 selected Chevrolet models and those are; Malibu, Impala, Cruze and Equinox.<\/p>\n
As we know most car manufacturers are racing to make better gearboxes to reduce fuel consumption, to help with that they tend to make smaller engines and support it with a turbocharger to increase its power.<\/p>\n
General Motors marketing director stated the new Hydra-Matic 9T50 9-speeds gearbox is going to save 3% of fuel consumption in its select models replacing the old six speeds system in Malibu, Impala and Cruze. The American manufacturer is also planning to implement the new transmission system in the near future for 10 of their models.<\/p>\n
Other changes Chevrolet has decided to do is to rename the LTZ trim to Premier<\/em> instead across the whole lineup making the Impala models for example as following: LS, LT and top trim new name Premier.
