Across the globe when motorists pull in to a petrol station there’s no attendant\u00a0insight, fuel is pumped by oneself or an enthusiastic\u00a0passenger. However, in the UAE pretty much since time\u00a0began\u00a0a friendly\u00a0petrol pump attendant is on hand to top\u00a0your car up with fuel. This month, that’s about to change at least in Abu Dhabi petrol stations as Adnoc distribution has new plans for their\u00a0facilities.<\/p>\n
From mid-April, motorists using Abu Dhabi petrol stations will either have to pay a small fee to the petrol attendant or pump their own fuel. No announcement of cost has been made.<\/p>\n
New safety features will also be introduced for those choosing self-service; this includes gloves and touchpads to minimise static discharge during the procedure.<\/p>\n
Premium and self-service will eventually make its way to other petrol stations scattered across the UAE.<\/p>\n
In recent months Abu Dhabi petrol stations and ADNOC started a unique service to road users that suffer from a malfunctioning fuel gauge or hectic work schedule. MyStation allows customers to ‘order’ petrol or LPG cylinders and have them delivered to their\u00a0own vehicle or home. Orders can be placed\u00a0via a mobile application and as of writing is still its testing phase.<\/p>\n
Readers who have lived in the UAE for some time may remember a similar “trial run” was started in Dubai. Select petrol stations around the Emirate would not have petrol pump attendants working at certain times allowing for drivers to pump their own petrol.<\/p>\n
