As the days go by, we’re getting closer and closer to the launch of the 2019\u00a0Toyota Supra and with that said, we’re finding out more and more\u00a0about the project. We’ve already covered the joint partnership with BMW<\/a> and the six-cylinder version, but the straight-six won’t be the only engine available.<\/p>\n

Documents have surfaced from German transmission manufacturer\u00a0ZF that show the 2019\u00a0Toyota Supra or A90 Supra will be available with not just one engine but two. Once this information\u00a0had surfaced, other sources went straight to Supra’s chief\u00a0engineer Tetsuya Tada and questioned him about the legitimacy of the document of which he confirmed it is true.<\/p>\n

The document goes into detail about a lower-powered’ version of the 2019 Toyota Supra which will use a BMW-sourced\u00a01,998 CC four-cylinder petrol engine rated at 262 horsepower. The straight-six version with a 3.0-litre single turbo setup produces 335 hp. Both versions of the Supra will be connected to an eight-speed automatic gearbox.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, the document also has the upcoming Z4 detailed as well\u00a0with most of the transmission and engine details being identical to the 2019 Toyota Supra. However, upon further reading, BMW’s version will be more potent with the 3.0-litre intact as it’s listed as exerting 375 hp.<\/p>\n

Tetsuya Tada went on to explain that the four-cylinder version will be lighter and have better weight distribution. He also turned his attention to fans out there that have the intention of dropping a 2JZ engine under the bonnet, “please buy the four-cylinder. It will be cheaper.”<\/p>\n

After successfully racing up the Goodwood Hill Climb, it’s unknown where Toyota plans on taking the next-gen Supra next or whether\u00a0or not a manual box<\/a> will be made available at some point.<\/p>\n
