{"id":29815,"date":"2019-02-20T17:12:58","date_gmt":"2019-02-20T13:12:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.dubicars.com\/news\/?p=29815"},"modified":"2019-02-20T17:12:58","modified_gmt":"2019-02-20T13:12:58","slug":"car-free-day-2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dubicars.com\/news\/car-free-day-2019.html","title":{"rendered":"Leave your car at home this Sunday (February 24)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Drivers across Dubai and other Emirates are urged to leave their\u00a0cars at home and use public transport to get to and from work this Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Held every year, this is the 10th edition of the annual Car-Free Day.<\/p>\n<p>The event will be led by senior officials and other prolific personal in the UAE who will also\u00a0leave their\u00a0vehicles behind and board the metro.<\/p>\n<p>The group will start their\u00a0journey from Etisalat\u00a0Metro Station located in Al Qusais 3 and continue\u00a0to Union Metro Station which sits in the heart of Deira.<\/p>\n<p>To celebrate the occasion, a special exhibition\u00a0will be held.<\/p>\n<p>Now in its tenth\u00a0year, as per the Dubai Municipality (DM), Car-Free Day is at &#8220;raising Dubai&#8217;s profile among the world&#8217;s eco-friendly\u00a0cities by finding all sustainable\u00a0and effective\u00a0solutions to meet various environmental\u00a0challenges.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>According\u00a0to studies conducted, a standard four-door saloon vehicle produces close to 140kg of carbon dioxide and four tonnes of emissions per year.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, DM held a competition on social media where three lucky participants won an Apple watch, iPad mini and vouchers.<\/p>\n<p>In 2018, more than 60,000 residents in the UAE opted to take public transport instead of using their vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>Select residents also joined the cause\u00a0by cycling and even walking to their offices to help reduce the UAE&#8217;s carbon footprint.<\/p>\n<p>Other government\u00a0departments have supported Car-Free Day including the Ministry of Community Development.<\/p>\n<p>Want to sell your car in UAE, but don&#8217;t know where to advertise it?
