Late last week, the Ministry of Interior (MOI) has announced that they will enforce harsher penalties for motorists who do not give way to emergency vehicles in the UAE. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Offending drivers caught not giving way to emergency vehicles will receive a hefty fine of AED 3,000, six black points and their vehicle will be confiscated for 30 days. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Previously, the fine was AED 1,000 and six black points. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police cars, fire trucks, civil defence and ambulances are the most obvious ones to move out of the way of, but the fine will also be imposed if a driver is caught holding up an official parade vehicle as well. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The harsher penalties will come into effect on the 1st of July 2019, the move aims to improve road and traffic safety across the country while reducing the number of casualties caused by traffic accidents. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ministry of Interior also announced that an increased presence of civil patrols to monitor violations against official and emergency vehicles via road-mounted cameras, smart systems and patrol vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Drivers caught following emergency vehicles as a means to cut through traffic can also be fined. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
