Performance\u00a0versions of regular vehicles are certainly a craze right now. Auto manufacturers are busy tweaking their most popular vehicles and creating more potent versions for the general public to gobble up. Usually hailing from German, American and Japenese brands, South Korean ones don’t have a lot to show off. That is until Hyundai have put the wheels in motion and are taking on the mighty BMW M4.<\/p>\n

M, R, F, AMG, SRT, TRD and now N are all extra letters added to vehicles to make them more sought after in terms of performance and slight modifications added for extra flair. The six of the seven you’ve no doubt heard about, that just leaves us with N. N is Hyundai’s new performance division and like the rest, they’ll be tinkering with various aspects.<\/p>\n

Based on the upcoming Hyundai Genesis G70 coupe, which in itself is based on the G70 sedan except with two-doors and will find its home underneath the current G80 and G90 vehicles. Still in its concept stages, it looks absolutely stunning on paper, luscious curves to rival the Germans, massive front grille, sleek lighting and butterfly doors. Now before we get to carried away this is just a drawing,\u00a0however looking like this, Maserati may have to worry a bit with their Alfieri concept<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Hyundai do have a 5.0-litre eight cylinder petrol engine to drop into the engine bay, however as they are focused on the BMW M4, a newly developed six-cylinder 3.3-litre motor seems more feasible. Pumping out an estimated 365 horsepower or more, it’s more in line with the M4’s 425 horsepower produced from their six-cylinder 3.0-litre twin turbo.<\/p>\n

It’s said, Hyundai are not only working on a sports coupe and attaching an “N” badge, the South Koren brand is also working on a “high-performance” hatchback using the Hyundai i30 as a base. Rivalling the likes of Volkswagen’s\u00a0Golf GTi and Ford’s Focus ST hot hatches. This model was caught testing last year in Germany at the infamous Nurburgring, with adjusted front splitter, dropped suspension, deeper cuts in various places for added air intake, upgraded wheels and brakes. Usually powered by a 1.6 litre four cylinder petrol engine, it’s said to retain\u00a0this motor with obvious modifications to make it so much sweeter.<\/p>\n

This hot hatch is set to launch later this year. Also, on the table is the Hyundai Vision G Coupe concept<\/a>, shown off last year and wowed many onlookers. They do look quite similar, Vision G will sit higher up in the food chain. That is if it sees the light of day as it’s powered by a 5.0-litre V8 motor.<\/p>\n

Whilst it’s just the start of a new year and plenty of motor shows\u00a0are scheduled to take place throughout, Hyundai are keeping a tight lip on their latest sports coupe and when the public will feast their eyes on it.
