Tesla recently concluded its Q2 2023 revenue update and also revealed a few details about the Cybertruck and its technology. For starters, the first model of the Tesla Cybertruck was rolled out of the factory earlier this month. Shedding more light on the electric pick-up, the brand says that they are on track to begin the initial production later this year at Gigafactory Texas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tesla<\/a> also announced that they are also working on the next-generation platform, which is rumored to spawn affordable EVs from the brand. We have also seen noise around a cost-effective Cybertruck being spawned from the newly developing platform. For now, back to the Cybertruck. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cybertruck Production & Testing Update<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

At the conference, Tesla also stated that the Cybertruck testing is underway around the world for final certification and validation. As this is one of the most unique vehicles launched in recent times, the trialing and testing are different to test new technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another major update on the Tesla Cybertruck was its dimensions. The brand claims the electric pick-up truck to be the first sub-19 feet truck with 4 doors and a bed that\u2019s longer than 6 feet. However, the complete dimensions of the Cybertruck are yet to be revealed. \u201cBoth technologically and architecturally, the Cybertruck will break a lot of boundaries \u2014 very much in line with how we think about vehicle engineering and manufacturing,\u201d <\/em>claims Tesla.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tesla has released several photos to prove that they are on schedule with the production and testing of the Cybertruck. One photo shows the Cybertruck being built on the factory line, while another shows it being driven on a muddy track. If you look closely at the second image, you can see the test vehicle’s single wiper cleaning the windshield, suggesting the co-passenger might have a muddy view. These photos demonstrate the progress and testing of the Cybertruck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cybertruck Battery Technology Update<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

During the Q2 earnings call, Tesla also revealed new tech details about the Cybertruck.  The pick-up will use an upgraded version of the 4680 cells with 10% higher energy density, achieved through optimization. This could potentially lead to an improved range or a more compact battery pack with the same range. Tesla aims to cut battery cell costs in half in the long run by implementing the new 4680 format. Tesla’s cell production at the Texas plant increased by 80% in Q2 2023, thanks to yield improvements. They also reduced cell costs by 25%. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cybertruck Deliveries<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Elon Musk<\/a> estimated that Tesla could sell between 250,000 to 500,000 Cybertrucks annually once production reaches its full capacity. He emphasized that Tesla aims to meet the demand for the truck. However, affordability might be a challenge due to the new manufacturing method involving the Ultra-Hard 30X Cold-Rolled stainless-steel exoskeleton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regarding deliveries, Musk mentioned that the Cybertruck handover event would likely happen at the end of the third quarter, around September 2023. The first Cybertruck made will probably be among the vehicles delivered to customers during this event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cybertruck Rivals<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Tesla Cybertruck will primarily rival the Ford F-150 Lightning, the Rivian R1T, and the GMC Hummer EV. The Cybertruck\u2019s 6 feet bed length will be far superior to Ford\u2019s 5.5 ft, Hummer\u2019s 5 feet, and R1T\u2019s 4.5 ft bed length, respectively.
