Not even the Jeep Wrangler is safe from the downsizing trend, which every manufacturer is doing so, except for a few high-end ones a la Aston Martin, Bugatti and Koenigsegg. The latter three are for those for deep pockets whereas the ones downsizing are looking to appeal to regular consumers who worry about fuel economy and what not. Recent reports suggest that Wrangler will receive a new engine.<\/p>\n

Dubbed ‘Hurricane’,\u00a0two cylinders have been dropped and the displacement has downsized to 2-litres from 3.6 litres. It’s said to pump out 300 horsepower which is 15 more than current generation Wranglers pump out. The increase due to the addition of turbocharging, variable valve training and direct fuel injection.<\/p>\n

Even though die-hard fans may be a bit upset with the news of two cylinders going missing, but with the removal, fuel economy increase making it even more desirable to the offroad enthusiast. Construction of the vehicle is lightweight aluminium and power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox. Fingers crossed a manual transmission will still be on offer.<\/p>\n

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles or FCA for short, already have quite the potent four-cylinder 2.0-litre motor which will find a home in the gorgeous Alfa Romeo Giulia sedan, rated at 264 horsepower, it’s due out sometime in 2016 as a 2017 model. Alfa Romeo also has a 1.75 litre inline four cylinder that powers the Alfa 4C, which surprisingly\u00a0has less horsepower than the new Wrangler engine.<\/p>\n

On the topic of downsized engines producing more power, ‘Hurricane’ produces 55 more hp than Ford’s Ecoboost two-litre, however, when it comes to the strong German units, it’s underpowered by 75 horses compared to the CLA 45 AMG, A 45 AMG and GLA 45 AMG.<\/p>\n

Wranglers with the new motors haven’t been given a release date. However, it’s expected later this year are early next year. Also, it’s worth noting that the V6 motor isn’t completely off the table as if it will join alongside was not mentioned.<\/p>\n
