Last Camaro ZL1 Supercharged LT4 Engine Rolls Off The Assembly Line — The End Of An Era

In a bittersweet moment for automotive enthusiasts, the last Camaro ZL1 Supercharged LT4 engine has been built, marking the end of an era for an iconic powerhouse that has left an indelible mark on the muscle car landscape.

Chevrolet recently announced the completion of the final unit of the Supercharged LT4 engine for the Camaro ZL1, signaling the end of production for this high-performance masterpiece. The LT4 engine has been a symbol of raw power and engineering excellence, defining the Camaro ZL1 as a force to be reckoned with on both the road and the track.

The LT4 engine, a 6.2-liter supercharged V8, has been at the heart of the Camaro ZL1 since its introduction in 2017. However, the LT4 was first introduced in 2015, powering the C7-generation Corvette Z06. It has over the years delivered an astonishing combination of horsepower and torque that has thrilled driving enthusiasts worldwide.

Producing a formidable 650hp and 881Nm of torque in the Camaro, the LT4 engine has consistently pushed the boundaries of what a production car can achieve, making the Camaro ZL1 a true beast among modern muscle cars.

The decision to discontinue the Camaro ZL1 Supercharged LT4 engine comes as GM shifts its focus towards the future of electric and hybrid vehicles. While this marks the end of a chapter for the legendary LT4, it also signals a new direction for GM as it embraces evolving technologies and the changing landscape of the automotive industry.

In addition, production of the current-generation Chevrolet Camaro is expected to end after January 2024. Hence, it is not just the ZL1 Camaro, but all other variants of the Camaro will see the end of the line as well. Chevrolet has not revealed a successor yet but has assured enthusiasts that this is not an absolute dead-end for the Camaro.

Earlier this year, Chevrolet announced the arrival of the Camaro Collectors Edition as the final special edition Camaro. Now, the very last Camaro ZL1’s LT4 engine has been produced. However, there is no information yet about what the brand plans to do with this engine.

Will it go into the engine bay of one last ZL1? Will it be auctioned? Or will it be placed in a museum? Only time will tell. However, one thing is certain — the next Camaro will never sound like the current-gen ZL1 with a roaring supercharged LT4 engine under the bonnet!

If you still want a car powered by the iconic LT4 engine, you can pick the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing or the Cadillac Escalade V. Both Chevrolet and Cadillac are under the GM umbrella and the LT4 is an engine that was shared between a few high-performance GM cars.
