First-Ever Porsche 911 Hybrid Revealed: Here Are All The Details

Porsche unveiled a landmark addition to its iconic lineup with the reveal of the first-ever hybrid 911 — the Carrera GTS T-Hybrid. This innovative model marks a significant step for the German automaker. Porsche, as always has used the electric powertrain to create the most powerful 911 yet.

Hybrid Powertrain

Unlike many hybrids that offer electric-only driving modes, the 911 Carrera GTS utilises a unique “T-Hybrid” system focused on performance enhancement. This lightweight hybrid setup features several key components:

  • A newly developed 3.6-liter, six-cylinder turbocharged boxer engine
  • An electric motor is integrated into the turbocharger to eliminate turbo lag
  • Another electric motor integrated into the 8-speed PDK transmission for additional power
  • Both electric motors are powered by a 1.9 kWh battery pack

New Engine

The 2025 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS uses a new 3.6-litre, six-cylinder boxer engine, up from the 3.0-litre on the older model. Compared to the previous GTS, the new engine produces 53hp more, reaching a total of 478hp on its own. Unlike the twin-turbo setup of the past, the new engine utilises a single, electrically assisted turbocharger.

Hybrid 911 Performance

The combined output of this system is a noteworthy 541hp and 610Nm of torque. This translates to a 0-100kmph acceleration time of just 3.0 seconds and a top speed of 312kmph. Porsche claims the new GTS lapped the challenging Nurburgring Nordschleife a staggering 8.7 seconds faster than its predecessor.

The T-Hybrid system achieves impressive performance while minimising weight gain compared to plug-in hybrids, with an increase of only 50kg over the previous model. Read this linked article to know the complete history of the 911.

Suspension & Wheel Upgrades

  • Standard Rear-Wheel Steering: Enhances stability at high speeds and improves manoeuvrability.
  • Electrohydraulic PDCC: Integrates the Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control system with the hybrid’s high-voltage system for more precise and adaptable anti-roll stabilisation.
  • Sports Suspension with PASM: Offers characteristic GTS handling with variable dampers and a lowered ride height.
  • Wheel Options: Seven 19/20-inch or 20/21-inch designs available, including new Exclusive Design wheels with carbon blades for improved efficiency.
  • Wider Rear Tyres: Standard 21-inch wheels with wider 315/30 ZR 21 rear tyres for the Carrera GTS enhance driving dynamics and traction.

Design & Aero Upgrades

The design of the new 911 Carrera GTS retains the classic 911 silhouette but incorporates some modern refinements. New LED matrix headlights replace the horizontal fog lights in the front bumper, while the rear features a new light bar with integrated Porsche badging. Aerodynamics are also improved with movable air flaps in the front bumper and under the car that adjust for optimal cooling and downforce.

Interior Upgrades

The Porsche Driver Experience control concept prioritises driver access to essential controls like the driving mode switch, revised driver assistance, and the new start button on the steering wheel.

Fully Digital Instrument Cluster:

A first for the 911, this 12.6-inch customisable cluster offers up to seven views, including a classic option inspired by the traditional Porsche gauges.

Improved Central Display:

The 10.9-inch high-resolution touchscreen retains the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system, but with enhanced driving mode customisation and easier control of driver assistance features.

The 2025 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS marks a turning point for the iconic sports car. It demonstrates Porsche’s ability to integrate new technologies like hybrid systems while staying true to the car’s core principles of performance and driving dynamics.
