Rise to Leadership

Despite having opportunities in various fields, Akio Toyoda eventually followed his father and grandfather’s footsteps. He joined Toyota in 1984, starting at the bottom rungs of the company. He worked his way up through various positions, gaining firsthand experience in different departments, including manufacturing, marketing, and product development.

In 2009, amidst global economic challenges and internal struggles, Akio Toyoda was appointed President and CEO of Toyota Motor Corporation, marking the beginning of a new era for the company.

The fact that he’s an automotive royalty didn’t stop Akio Toyoda from following his passion and taking Toyota group products to the racetrack. He signed up for several races under the alias Morizo Kinoshita.

At the 2009 24 Hours of Nurburgring race, he finished third in class in a Lexus IS F. He entered the prestigious race again in 2014, this time with a Lexus LF-A. Akio Toyoda finished 13th overall and first in class. Using his racing experience, Akio Toyoda worked on developing the GR Yaris, giving valuable feedback to the engineers as a test driver.
