New Toyota Prado — Top Things To Know About The New Land Cruiser Prado

Toyota revealed the new Prado called the Land Cruiser 250 last year. The Land Cruiser Light-Duty Series, where the Prado is positioned, received an update after 14 years.

Finally, nearly a year after its first unveiling, the new Land Cruiser 250 a.k.a Prado is all set to be launched in the UAE on the 24th of June. As we await the complete pricing of the SUV, here are the top things to know about the new Prado launching in the UAE.

Land Cruiser 250 or Prado?

Toyota launched the new SUV under the name Land Cruiser 250. However, once launched in the UAE, it could very well carry the Prado nameplate forward.

New Prado Versions

The new Prado could be available in three model variants: standard, 1958 edition and First Edition. Highly likely that the special editions could arrive in the UAE as a bonus.

GA-F Platform

It is built using Toyota’s GA-F platform for tough, off-road-ready SUVs and trucks. It’s designed to be strong and adaptable, making it a perfect fit for the Land Cruiser 250.

New Dimensions

The new Prado measures 4,925mm in length, 1,980mm in width, and 1,870mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,850mm. In comparison to the older Prado, the new SUV is 100mm longer, 95mm wider, 20mm taller, and has a 60mm longer wheelbase.

Boxy Exterior Design

The Land Cruiser 250’s exterior design blends classic Land Cruiser elements with a modern look. It retains the iconic “TOYOTA” grille and boxy fenders, instantly recognisable as a Land Cruiser.

Triple Headlamp Setup

This is the standard setup for the higher trim “Land Cruiser” version. It offers a modern and sleek look with LED headlights and DRLs placed on top inside the lamp cluster.

Alloy Wheels

Depending on the trim, the new Prado features steel wheels or 18-inch alloy wheels.

ADV Features

The new Prado comes equipped with roof rails, side steps, all-around body cladding and bash plates at either end making it adventure-ready.

Water Wading

Speaking of adventure-ready, the new Prado has a water-wading capacity of 700mm and ground clearance of 220mm.

Dual-Screen Setup

Top-spec trims of the new Prado feature a dual-screen setup: a 12.3-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch instrument cluster.

Three-zone Climate Control

The SUV features a three-zone climate control, where the driver, co-passenger and rear passengers can set the temperature as per their preferences.

Sunroof

It is one of the only Land Cruiser SUVs to feature a sunroof. However, it is a single-pane electrically operated unit.

Seating

Globally, the new Prado a.k.a Land Cruiser 250 is offered in 5 and 7-seat configurations. However, for the UAE, it is offered with 7 seats as standard.

JBL Audio

The new Prado comes equipped with a premium 14-speaker JBL sound system enhancing the overall in-cabin entertainment experience.

Powered & Ventilated Front Seats

The driver and front passenger get power-adjustable seats with ventilation for added comfort.

Wireless Phone Charger

A wireless charging pad eliminates the need for cables to keep your phone powered.

Glove-friendly Buttons

Much like rugged off-road SUVs, most of the controls have physical buttons and are large in design, which can be used by wearing gloves.

All-weather Floor Liner

Similarly, the floor is lined with rubber, which can be hosed down and easy to clean, especially with muddy boots.

Petrol & Diesel Powertrain Options

The new Prado will be offered in petrol and diesel engine options for the Middle Eastern market. Here are the engine-wise specs:

2.4L Turbo-Petrol

  • Max Power: 281hp
  • Peak Torque: 430Nm

2.8L Turbo-Diesel

  • Max Power: 204hp
  • Peak Torque: 500Nm

Both engines come paired with an 8-speed automatic torque converter and four-wheel drive transfer box.

Multi-Terrain Select (MTS)

This system allows you to choose from various pre-programmed driving modes that adjust the engine, transmission, and other systems to optimise performance for different terrains like sand, mud, rock, and moguls.

Multi-Terrain Monitor (MTM)

It provides a surround-view of the SUV using a 360-degree camera. Seeing obstacles hidden from your normal view becomes possible with this feature, allowing you to navigate tight spots and avoid damage on off-road trails.

Stabiliser Disconnect Mechanism (SDM)

This is a new feature for Toyota and is a first for the Land Cruiser lineup. It allows you to electronically disconnect the front stabiliser bar with the flip of a switch. This improves wheel articulation, allowing the wheels to move up and down more independently when traversing uneven terrain, enhancing off-road capability.

10 Airbags

The new Prado features front and side airbags for the driver and co-driver. Additionally, there is a curtain-style airbag on either side.

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 – Level 2 ADAS

Following the current trend, the new Prado is equipped with Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems making it safer and easier to drive.

Expected Price

The flagship Land Cruiser 300 is currently priced between AED 238,900 and 412,900 for the top-spec GR-Sport model. Considering this, we expect Toyota to price the new Land Cruiser Prado at around AED 190,000. The announcement of the new Prado’s actual prices in the UAE is scheduled for 24 June. The top-spec trim is estimated to be priced at around AED 300,000.
