2020 Abarth 595 Competizione; a literal pocket rocket

What the what now? Fiat and Abarth are relatively unknown when it comes to the UAE car market, but recently we’ve spotted a surge of these Italian cars pop up all around town, you can even find a few for sale on DubiCars right now.

But we’re not here to talk about all of them, we’re here today to tell you about one, and what a feisty one it is. The 2020 Abarth 595 Competitzione is what we’re on, about and we’ve got our hands on one.

But does the city car fit into a bustling city like Dubai, or are the roads and its drivers too much to handle for the quirky four-seater?

Join us and let’s find out together.

The good

  • Parking
  • Handling
  • Exhaust notes

The bad

  • Hard plastic components
  • Rear seats
  • Boot space

With all that out of the way, huge shout out to National Auto for lending us the car. If the 2020 Abarth is your next car, sell your car on Dubi Cars today and enjoy Money Back Guarantee if your car doesn’t sell in 30 days.

Driving the 2020 Abarth 595

During our time, we didn’t get bullied by other road users due to the vehicles small stature. We were able to keep up and at speed as per the legal speed limit.

Merging into fast-moving is easy thanks to the vehicles punchy engine and small dimensions.

Speaking of the engine, the 2020 Abarth 595 is powered by a 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine cranking out 180 horsepower. Thanks to how light the vehicle is and the hp, the 595 rockets to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds.

Parking is bliss in this car. Sliding into those tight spots isn’t an issue, and the vehicle is so compact, we didn’t get to put it to the test, but we’re quite sure that you can squeeze two into one space.

Delivering a lyrical tune is a Record Monza exhaust which sounds incredible with the roof down.

The ride itself is harsh, and that’s due to the vehicles sporty prowess and setup. Turning Sport mode off doesn’t help either.

Body roll is minimal when taking corners thanks to the Koni dampers and chassis is stiff.

Inside the 2020 Abarth 595

Our 595 wasn’t the coupe version. Instead, we had the cabriolet version. An excellent car for the colder winters here in the UAE. As the roof recess to the boot of the vehicle, the 595 is ideal for a bit of stargazing as the entire cabin opens up.

Don’t think you’ll be nipping to the shop with the 595 as boot space is tight. You’ll just be able to squeeze a small suitcase in there and that’s it.

The sports seats hug you tightly through the corners, but are manually adjusted and can take a while to get you comfy. There are also a few seat adjustments that would be nice to have that are not available with the 595 Abarth.

There’s room for four inside, but using the rear seats is not feasible for larger members of the public, even if our team were adamant about the size.

Tech and Safety

On the tech side, the Abarth 595 gets a 7-inch touchscreen display unit with Uconnect. The usual features make an appearance, including navigation, Bluetooth etc.

But what caught our eye, is the sound system. Instead of seeing the likes of BOSE, Fender or Harmon Kardon, the 595 is equipped with a Beats audio system.

There are some interesting design elements. The one that caught our eye was the boost gauge which sticks off the side of the main cluster.

There’s a cheeky sports button which changes up the dashboard cluster and gives it a red hue.

Final Verdict

Bypassing the boot space and the rear seats as that is not why you buy one of these, the 2020 Abarth 595 Competizione is a mini hot-hatch that grabs the attention of all around and not just because of its look.

Its low grumble helps too, and overall if you are looking for something that ticks all those boxes, then the 2020 Abarth 595 is the car for you!

As for looking at its competitors, in the UAE, the 2020 Abarth 595 doesn’t really have any. Yes, you could look at the Megane GT, Golf GTi or the Mini Cooper S lineup, but they don’t quite have the same charm as the Abarth.
