How many cars can you register in the UAE?

Did you know that for every two residents in the UAE, there is one car! Quite impressive when you think about it and it’s one of the biggest in the world. But there’s one question we get asked a lot, how many cars can you register in the UAE?

Well, this number varies from Emirate to Emirate.

As per the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai, any individual that holds a valid driving license and Dubai residence visa can register any number of cars. There are no limits, you can own one or 100.

Previously, there were some restraints for expats. For example, a few years ago, expats could only register either two or four vehicles in their name depending on the marital status.

For Sharjah and Abu Dhabi residents, we’ve been informed that expats can register between two and four cars while Emirati’s can register up to five cars per person.

Note that if you keep registering and deregistering or transfer cars to other people, you may be considered a car dealer which could limit how many cars you can register in your name.

As for the maximum number of cars one can sell in a year as a private individual, one can sell a total of two vehicles per year.
