Powered by 6.0L V12 Engine that produces 362 BHP & 391Nm of torque, mated to one of the smoothest 5-speed automatic gearboxes we’ve been in for a long time. The engine is predictably smooth and torquey but also lighter and more fuel-efficient than M-B's previous V12, shutting down the left bank of cylinders under light load and it does so in a transparent, fuss-free manner.
We must specially mention the Mercedes' Active Body Control (ABC). This is a true active suspension (the only one in production) that uses electrohydraulic rams in the damper units to accommodate suspension travel while directly managing body motion, giving remarkable reduction of roll, dive, and squat helps make the CL feel poised, responsive, and smaller than it is.
On the inside Mercedes uses lightweight magnesium for the door frames and mounts the doors on articulating hinges that slide them forward as they open. So, ingress and egress are much easier than in comparable cars. Crisply lighted electro-luminescent gauges anchor the sweeping instrument panel. At the centre of the dash is a wood-trimmed stack that includes the COMAND display.
