Summary

This GCC-spec Veloster represents a smart entry point into the sport-compact segment, offering a distinctive three-door layout that balances coupe styling with hatchback utility. In the GCC used market, the white exterior is the most sought-after color for heat reflection and strong resale liquidity. With 120,000 km, this vehicle has been driven well within the regional average for its age, suggesting it has avoided the heavy wear of high-mileage commuters. The GLS SR trim provides a significant equipment upgrade, including a panoramic roof and premium cabin features that make it feel more upscale than the base models. It remains a standout choice for those seeking head-turning looks without the high running costs of a traditional sports car.

This Car vs Other 2016 Velosters

With approximately 120,000 km on the odometer, this Veloster sits comfortably below the GCC average of 160,000–200,000 km for a 2016 model. The white exterior is the top-performing resale color in the UAE and Saudi markets, offering better value retention than more niche shades. Being a GCC-spec vehicle, it features the factory-upgraded cooling system and air conditioning units specifically designed to handle summer temperatures exceeding 45°C.

GLS SR vs Lower Trims

The GLS SR is the high-spec naturally aspirated variant, adding premium features that are often missing on the base models. This trim includes a large panoramic glass sunroof, a rearview camera with parking sensors, and 18-inch alloy wheels that significantly enhance its street presence. Inside, you benefit from cruise control and upgraded upholstery, making long highway drives between Emirates far more comfortable than in the entry-level configurations.

Veloster vs Segment Rivals

The Veloster competes with the Kia Cerato Koup and the Volkswagen Scirocco, leading the segment in pure visual distinction with its asymmetric three-door design. While rivals often opt for a traditional two-door coupe or four-door hatch setup, the Veloster provides easier rear-seat access for small families or shopping while maintaining a sporty profile. Its 50-litre fuel tank paired with a 1.6L engine ensures a competitive highway range for cross-border trips.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel economy averages 7.2 L/100km, though GCC city traffic may see this reach 9.0 L/100km. Hyundai’s extensive authorized service network across the UAE, Oman, and Saudi Arabia ensures that maintenance is affordable and parts are readily available. The 1.6L engine is known for its durability and simple servicing requirements, contributing to a lower annual depreciation rate compared to European luxury hatchbacks. Owners can expect 10,000 km service intervals, which is standard for the region.

Performance & Capability

The 1.6-litre engine delivers 128 horsepower, providing a smooth and predictable power delivery ideal for urban commuting and steady highway cruising. The six-speed automatic transmission is tuned for efficiency, allowing the car to reach a top speed of 195 km/h where legal. While not a track-focused machine, the front-wheel-drive chassis offers agile handling in city traffic and remains composed during long-distance drives across the GCC’s well-maintained highway network.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is configured for four passengers, with the unique third door on the passenger side making it much easier to load items or passengers into the back. The powerful air conditioning system is built for the Middle Eastern climate, quickly cooling the cabin even after the car has been parked in direct sunlight. Generous front legroom and intuitive tech, including Bluetooth connectivity, ensure a modern driving experience, while the 320-litre boot provides ample space for daily grocery runs or weekend travel bags.

Safety

Standard safety features on this trim include Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and multiple airbags to protect the driver and passengers. The inclusion of a factory rearview camera and rear parking sensors is particularly helpful for navigating tight parking spots in busy urban centers like Dubai or Riyadh. Its stable handling characteristics and strong braking performance provide confidence during fast-moving highway traffic common in the region.

The bottom line

This Veloster is the ideal choice for a young professional or a small family looking for a stylish, GCC-ready hatchback that prioritizes low running costs and high resale potential.
