Summary

This 2017 BMW X4 xDrive28i is a compelling option in the used GCC market, offering the desirable coupe-SUV silhouette at a more accessible entry point than its larger X6 sibling. With 130,000 km on the clock, it sits right at the average mileage expected for a seven-year-old vehicle in the UAE, where long-distance commutes are standard. The Brown exterior is a sophisticated choice that maintains high resale demand in the region by resisting the visible effects of desert dust better than darker tones. As a GCC-spec model, it features the upgraded cooling systems essential for maintaining performance during peak summer months. For buyers seeking a blend of German engineering and athletic styling without the overhead of a six-cylinder engine, this xDrive28i represents a balanced, reliable purchase.

This Car vs Other 2017 X4s

At 130,000 km, this X4 has been driven roughly 18,500 km per year, which is slightly below the GCC annual average of 20,000–25,000 km. This makes it a mechanically 'younger' car than many local examples of the same vintage. The Brown paintwork is a practical advantage for local ownership, offering better thermal properties and dust masking than black or dark blue alternatives.

xDrive28i vs Lower Trims

The xDrive28i serves as the established entry point for the F26 generation in the GCC, providing xDrive all-wheel drive as standard for superior stability on rain-slicked highways or gravel tracks. Compared to base 'sDrive' models found in other markets, this trim includes larger 18-inch wheels, power-adjustable front seats, and the full iDrive infotainment suite. It provides the essential BMW luxury experience while prioritizing fuel efficiency over the high-consumption six-cylinder variants.

X4 vs Segment Rivals

The X4 is frequently cross-shopped with the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe and the Porsche Macan. It leads the segment in cargo practicality with a 500-litre boot that is more usable for family road trips than the Macan’s tighter rear quarters. Furthermore, the X4’s xDrive system is tuned for a rear-bias feel, offering a more engaging driving experience on winding roads like Jebel Jais compared to the more comfort-oriented GLC.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for this 2.0L turbocharged engine typically ranges between 7.4L and 10.5L/100km, depending on whether you are cruising on the E11 or navigating stop-start traffic in Downtown Dubai. As a GCC-spec vehicle, it retains a significant value premium over American-spec imports and enjoys full support from authorized service centers like AGMC or Al Ain Class. BMWs in this segment typically see a 12-15% annual depreciation in the UAE, though the unique body style helps it hold value better than traditional sedans.

Performance & Capability

The 2.0L TwinPower Turbo engine delivers a verified 0–100 km/h time of 6.4 seconds, providing plenty of punch for overtaking on high-speed desert highways. The 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission is widely regarded as one of the best in the industry, offering smooth shifts that enhance cabin refinement. While not a desert basher, the 204mm ground clearance and all-wheel drive make it perfectly capable of handling sandy car parks and light off-road trails during weekend outings.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is a driver-focused environment featuring BMW’s signature high-quality materials and a layout that places every control within easy reach. GCC-specific cooling performance is excellent, with a powerful air conditioning system designed to drop cabin temperatures rapidly even after hours in the sun. Despite the sloping roofline, the rear seats are sculpted to provide comfortable seating for two adults, and the 40/20/40 split-folding rear bench allows for flexible storage of larger items like golf clubs or strollers.

Safety

This X4 is equipped with a comprehensive safety suite including front, side, and curtain airbags, along with Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) tailored for varying grip levels. Standard parking sensors and a rearview camera are vital for navigating tight urban parking spaces in the Emirates. The xDrive system acts as an active safety feature, constantly redistributing power to the wheels with the most grip to prevent skidding on sandy or wet surfaces.

The bottom line

For the GCC buyer wanting the premium 'Sports Activity Coupe' look with a sensible balance of maintenance costs and performance, this GCC-spec X4 is a well-maintained and stylish choice.
