Summary

This 2017 Wrangler Unlimited Willys Wheeler bridges the gap between the base Sport and the technical Rubicon, offering high-performance off-road hardware for the enthusiast. Finished in Black, a top-tier color for resale in the GCC, it features a 3.6L Pentastar V6 known for its reliability across the region's diverse terrains. This specific trim adds heavy-duty rock rails and a specialized limited-slip differential, making it uniquely capable in soft sand and gravel compared to standard road-biased SUVs. For a GCC buyer, this model represents the ultimate modular 4x4, perfectly suited for weekend desert exploration while maintaining five-seat family practicality. With its robust mechanical pedigree and strong aftermarket support, it remains a standout choice for those who value durability and iconic design.

This Car vs Other 2017 Wrangler Unlimiteds

At 167,500 km, this vehicle has been driven approximately 18,600 km per year, which is below the typical 20,000–25,000 km annual average for SUVs in the GCC. This lower-than-average usage for its 9 years of age suggests more measured mechanical wear compared to many highway-heavy counterparts. The Black exterior is a high-demand color in the local used market, ensuring faster liquidity and stronger value retention at the point of resale.

WILLYS WHEELER vs Lower Trims

The Willys Wheeler is a significant mechanical upgrade over the Sport S, adding a Trac-Lok limited-slip rear differential and a heavy-duty Dana 44 rear axle for superior traction in the dunes. It further differentiates itself with 17-inch High-Gloss Black wheels, Rubicon-spec rock rails for underbody protection, and deep-tint sunscreen glass, which is essential for managing cabin temperatures during the intense GCC summer.

Wrangler Unlimited vs Segment Rivals

Compared to rivals like the Toyota FJ Cruiser or Nissan Xterra, the Wrangler Unlimited offers unmatched modularity with its fully removable roof and doors for a true open-air experience. While competitors often use independent front suspension, the Wrangler's solid axle setup provides superior articulation and durability for serious off-roading. Additionally, its vast aftermarket ecosystem in the UAE and wider GCC makes it the most customizable platform in the segment.

Running Costs & Resale

The 3.6L Pentastar V6 is a staple engine across the GCC, ensuring that spare parts are widely available and affordable at authorized service centers and independent garages alike. Real-world fuel consumption averages around 13.1 L/100km, which is competitive for a heavy-duty 4x4 in city and highway driving cycles. The Jeep Wrangler historically maintains one of the highest residual values in the UAE, typically retaining roughly 75-77% of its value over a five-year period.

Performance & Capability

Equipped with a Command-Trac part-time 4WD system and a 2.72:1 low-range transfer case, this Willys Wheeler is built to conquer soft sand dunes and rocky wadis with ease. The 285 hp engine provides ample torque for highway overtaking and steep climbs, while the 3.73 axle ratio ensures a responsive power delivery across all gears. With 254 mm of ground clearance, it clears obstacles that would stop most family crossovers, making it a genuine dual-purpose vehicle.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for both durability and comfort, featuring five-passenger seating and all-weather slush mats that are ideal for sandy weekend trips. The air conditioning system is specifically tuned to meet GCC requirements, providing rapid cooling even in temperatures exceeding 45°C. For connectivity, the interior includes the Uconnect system with Bluetooth and steering wheel-mounted audio controls, ensuring a comfortable experience for long-distance drives across the Emirates.

Safety

Standard safety features on this trim include advanced multistage front airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) with Hill Start Assist, and Electronic Roll Mitigation. The heavy-duty rock rails provide additional side-impact protection, while the Sentry Key theft deterrent system ensures security in urban environments. These systems are particularly beneficial on fast-moving UAE highways, providing peace of mind during high-speed commuting.

The bottom line

This Willys Wheeler is an exceptional find for an enthusiast seeking Rubicon-level hardware and iconic styling without the premium price tag. Given its below-average mileage and high-resale color, it offers a secure and capable entry point into the Jeep lifestyle for a GCC-based owner.
