• Extensive GCC authorised service network
• Strong value retention in the GCC used market

Summary

This Toyota Hiace GL represents a dependable choice for business owners seeking a high-utility workhorse with the robust 2.7L petrol engine. While its mileage reflects active commercial use typical for GCC fleets, the vehicle's red exterior offers a distinctive look compared to the standard white vans commonly seen on UAE roads. The manual transmission provides direct control and mechanical simplicity, making it ideal for managing heavy loads across long highway stretches. As a GCC-spec model, it is purpose-built to handle extreme regional temperatures with high-capacity cooling systems. This trim level balances essential cargo capability with the improved interior features of the GL package.

This Car vs Other 2020 Hiaces

At 189,000 km, this van has seen consistent use that is average to slightly high for a four-year-old commercial vehicle in the GCC, where 40,000 km annually is standard for logistics. Its red paint is a rare find in a segment dominated by white and silver, providing a unique branding opportunity or easier identification in a fleet. Being a GCC-spec unit, it retains a significant value advantage over imported variants due to its local service history and regional cooling upgrades.

GL vs Lower Trims

The GL trim upgrades the basic utility of the standard panel van with body-colored bumpers and chrome exterior accents that provide a more professional appearance. Inside, the GL package typically adds power windows, remote central locking, and an improved audio system compared to the more spartan DX trim. These additions make long shifts significantly more comfortable for the driver while maintaining the same rugged load-hauling DNA.

Hiace vs Segment Rivals

The Hiace leads rivals like the Nissan Urvan and Hyundai Staria Load in terms of long-term durability and ease of maintenance across the Middle East. Its 2.7L 2TR-FE engine is legendary for its ability to withstand high-heat environments and stop-start city traffic better than smaller turbocharged competitors. Toyota's footprint in the region ensures that even in remote areas of Saudi Arabia or Oman, parts and expert service remain readily available.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 2.7L petrol manual typically averages between 10L and 12L/100km depending on the payload. Service intervals are recommended every 10,000 km, and with the largest authorized service network in the GCC, maintenance is both convenient and cost-effective. The Hiace famously holds one of the highest resale values in the global commercial market, often retaining over 65% of its value even after several years of heavy use.

Performance & Capability

The 164 hp naturally aspirated engine delivers reliable torque for hauling a maximum payload of approximately 1,115 kg. While not designed for speed, the rear-wheel-drive configuration and manual gearbox provide the necessary traction and gear-selection control for navigating steep ramps or sandy worksites. It is a proven platform for long-distance transport between emirates, offering stable highway performance even when fully loaded.

Comfort & Cabin

This commercial variant features a 3-seat front bench configuration, maximizing the rear cargo volume for specialized equipment or freight. The air conditioning is specifically engineered for the 45°C+ GCC summers, featuring powerful blowers that quickly cool the insulated cabin. The GL trim also includes additional interior storage compartments and cup holders to improve the daily workflow for the driver and crew.

Safety

Safety is managed through a reinforced body structure and standard dual front SRS airbags. This model includes Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) to help maintain traction on unpredictable road surfaces like gravel or rain-slicked asphalt. Three-point seatbelts for all three front occupants are standard on the GL trim, ensuring basic but essential protection for the crew during daily operations.

The bottom line

For a buyer needing a mechanically sound, GCC-ready van that stands out from the crowd, this Hiace GL offers the perfect blend of Toyota reliability and unique aesthetic appeal.
