Summary

This 2021 RAM 1500 SLT offers a balanced entry into the full-size pickup market, featuring the reliable 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine known for its longevity across the GCC. While the black exterior is a high-demand choice for resale in the region, the American specification means buyers should expect a more highway-tuned setup compared to local variants. It stands out in the segment for its superior ride quality, thanks to a class-exclusive coil-spring rear suspension that rivals luxury SUVs for comfort. For a GCC owner, this truck represents a durable workhorse that transitions seamlessly from city job sites to weekend desert excursions.

This Car vs Other 2021 RAM 1500s

At 128,000 km, this truck sits slightly above the average annual mileage for GCC-driven vehicles, which typically ranges from 20,000 to 25,000 km per year. However, these kilometers are often highway-heavy, and the V6 powertrain is engineered for exactly this type of sustained long-distance travel. The black exterior is one of the top three most desirable colors for resale in the UAE and wider Gulf market.

SLT vs Lower Trims

The SLT trim upgrades the interior from the work-focused vinyl of the Tradesman to high-quality cloth upholstery and adds convenient chrome exterior accents. It features the Uconnect infotainment system with a more integrated cabin feel and remote keyless entry, which are essential for daily usability in the UAE. You also benefit from an overhead console and additional storage bins that are often missing on base commercial variants.

RAM 1500 vs Segment Rivals

Compared to the Ford F-150 and Chevrolet Silverado, the RAM 1500 leads the segment in cabin refinement and ride smoothness due to its unique rear coil-link suspension. It offers a more car-like handling experience on the E11 and E311 highways while maintaining a competitive payload capacity. The 3.6L engine provides a more fuel-efficient alternative to the V8 rivals without sacrificing the large-bed practicality expected in this class.

Running Costs & Resale

The 3.6L V6 delivers a combined fuel consumption of approximately 12.6 L/100km, which is efficient for a full-size truck in GCC stop-start traffic. As an American spec vehicle, it typically carries a lower initial purchase price than GCC-spec units, reflecting the standard 12–15% annual depreciation seen in the UAE market. While authorized service centers for RAM are widely available across major UAE cities, owners should ensure cooling system maintenance is prioritized for the local summer heat.

Performance & Capability

Powered by the proven 305 hp Pentastar V6, this truck manages a respectable maximum towing capacity of 3,497 kg when properly equipped. The four-wheel-drive system includes a dedicated low-range mode, making it capable of navigating soft sand during weekend desert trips. Its 8-speed automatic transmission is optimized for smooth shifting, providing ample torque for overtaking on fast-moving regional highways.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for five occupants with a focus on long-distance ergonomics, featuring a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel and spacious rear seating. A high-output air conditioning system is a hallmark of the RAM design, ensuring rapid cooling even when temperatures exceed 45°C. Acoustic glass and extensive insulation keep the interior quiet, protecting passengers from road noise and the intense Gulf sun.

Safety

Standard safety features include a comprehensive suite of six airbags and electronic stability control with specialized trailer sway damping. The ParkView rear back-up camera provides clear visibility for tight parking in urban areas like Dubai or Riyadh. Advanced braking systems, including Ready Alert Braking and Rain Brake Support, ensure consistent stopping power across varied road surfaces and weather conditions.

The bottom line

This RAM 1500 SLT is a smart choice for the value-conscious buyer who needs a capable 4x4 with modern cabin comforts and a top-tier resale color.
