Summary

This 2021 Toyota Hiace GL represents a high-value opportunity in the GCC market, combining the legendary reliability of a commercial workhorse with the superior power of the 3.5L V6 engine. With mileage closely aligned with the regional annual average of 25,000 km, this vehicle remains in prime mechanical health and is ready for several more years of demanding service. The white exterior is the preferred choice for local resale, offering maximum heat reflection during peak summer months. Unlike many fleet-spec vans, this 6-seater GL trim offers a more versatile cabin layout, making it an ideal choice for businesses that need to transport both specialized crews and cargo across the Emirates.

This Car vs Other 2021 Hiaces

At 110,000 km, this van sits right at the expected average for a five-year-old commercial vehicle in the GCC, where long-distance highway hauls between cities are standard. Its white finish is the most sought-after color in the local used market, ensuring faster resale and better value retention compared to darker tones. The 3.5L V6 petrol engine is particularly prized in the region for its ability to maintain highway speeds comfortably even when fully loaded under extreme heat.

GL vs Lower Trims

The GL trim upgrades the basic workhorse experience with essential comfort and convenience features that GCC buyers value, such as a multi-function steering wheel and upgraded interior materials. It adds front fog lamps for improved visibility during seasonal dust storms and a more refined front grille finish. Crucially, this trim includes a rear-view camera and parking sensors as standard, which are vital for maneuvering a vehicle of this size in tight urban loading zones.

Hiace vs Segment Rivals

The Hiace consistently leads rivals like the Nissan Urvan and Hyundai H1 due to its superior resale value and the sheer density of the Toyota service network across the GCC. While competitors may offer lower initial purchase prices, the Hiace provides a larger 3.5L V6 engine that offers more confident overtaking power on fast-moving highways like the E11. Additionally, the availability of parts in every major city from Muscat to Kuwait City gives it a distinct advantage in minimizing operational downtime.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 3.5L V6 manual is approximately 12.4L/100km on a combined cycle, though this can vary depending on the payload. Toyota's extensive authorized network across the UAE and KSA ensures that service intervals, typically every 10,000 km, are predictable and affordable. The Hiace maintains one of the highest retention rates in the GCC commercial segment, typically holding 75-80% of its value after three years of use.

Performance & Capability

The 277 hp V6 engine delivers a smooth, linear power delivery that is far more refined than the four-cylinder diesel alternatives common in this segment. This petrol powertrain is specifically engineered to handle the thermal loads of the GCC summer without the complexity of diesel particulate filters. With a braked towing capacity of 1,400 kg and rear-wheel drive durability, it is as capable at hauling equipment as it is at steady highway cruising.

Comfort & Cabin

This 6-seater configuration features a spacious front cabin with a high-roof design that provides significant headroom, reducing driver fatigue during long shifts. The air conditioning system is world-renowned for its performance in 45°C+ temperatures, featuring powerful vents that quickly cool the entire cabin area. The manual transmission offers direct control for drivers who prefer managing power during heavy-load climbs or long-distance desert highway runs.

Safety

Safety is anchored by Toyota's robust semi-bonnet design, which provides a dedicated crumple zone missing in older cab-over vans. Standard safety equipment includes Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), and Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) to prevent rollback on inclines. The GL trim also features dual front airbags and a tyre pressure monitoring system to ensure safety during high-temperature highway drives.

The bottom line

For a GCC business owner or fleet manager, this V6-powered Hiace GL is the safest bet for long-term durability and high resale value. It is the definitive choice for those who need a reliable, powerful workhorse that is already proven in the local climate.
