Summary

This GCC-spec Mercedes Benz GLE 63 AMG S represents the pinnacle of performance SUVs, offering a blend of track-ready speed and daily family utility. Despite being driven approximately 33,000 km per year—reflecting typical highway use between major GCC cities—the car remains in peak mechanical condition. The black exterior is a high-demand color in the region, ensuring strong resale liquidity and a timeless aesthetic. This specific trim dominates its segment by offering the high-output S-variant engine which produces a staggering 602 hp, a significant leap over the standard AMG variant. For a buyer in the GCC, the combination of regional cooling specifications and the sheer presence of the AMG body styling makes this an exceptional choice. Owning this vehicle provides access to one of the most prestigious service networks in the UAE and wider Middle East, ensuring long-term peace of mind.

This Car vs Other 2022 GLE 63 AMGs

While the mileage on this 2022 Mercedes Benz GLE 63 AMG S is higher than the global average, it aligns perfectly with the standard 20,000–30,000 km annual cycle common for high-performance daily drivers in the GCC. Many 2022 models in the market have been kept as weekend cars, but this example has been utilized for its intended purpose: effortless long-distance travel on UAE highways. This highway-heavy usage often results in less wear on the transmission and braking systems compared to low-mileage city cars that endure constant stop-start heat cycles in traffic. The black-on-black configuration is arguably the most sought-after pairing for this model in the regional market, which helps it stand out against less popular silver or white versions. Choosing a GCC-spec model over an imported American or European version ensures that the cooling system and radiator are specifically designed to handle 45°C+ summer peaks without performance degradation.

S vs Lower Trims

The S trim is not merely a badge; it is a comprehensive mechanical and luxury upgrade over the standard GLE 53 or even the non-S GLE 63. Most notably, the 4.0L V8 is tuned to deliver 602 hp, featuring active engine mounts that stiffen during aggressive driving to improve handling—a feature absent on lower trims. Inside, the S variant introduces the AMG Performance steering wheel in Nappa leather and DINAMICA microfiber, complete with integrated drive-mode dials for instant adjustments. You also benefit from the AMG Electronic Rear-Axle Limited-Slip Differential, which provides vastly superior traction when accelerating out of corners compared to the mechanical setups found in lesser trims. GCC buyers will particularly appreciate the standard inclusion of the higher-tier Burmester Surround Sound system and enhanced climate control packages that are often optional on the base AMG models.

GLE 63 AMG vs Segment Rivals

When compared to the BMW X5 M Competition or the Porsche Cayenne Turbo, the GLE 63 AMG S stands out for its superior balance of brute force and interior technology. While the Porsche may offer a slightly more clinical steering feel, the Mercedes leads with its MBUX infotainment system, which is widely considered the most intuitive and visually impressive in the luxury SUV segment. The GLE also provides a more generous vertical cabin space, making it feel significantly airier for passengers during long family trips across the Emirates. Its 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system is uniquely tuned to allow for a 100% rear-torque split, giving it a playful character that rivals struggle to emulate while maintaining SUV stability. Furthermore, the availability of Mercedes-Benz service centers across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait is notably more robust than that of more niche performance brands.

Running Costs & Resale

Running a high-performance 4.0L V8 in the GCC is made more manageable by the relatively affordable high-octane fuel available at ADNOC and ENOC stations. Real-world fuel consumption typically hovers around 15.0L per 100km, though this can improve significantly during steady highway cruises between Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Service intervals are typically set at 15,000 km or 12 months, and while AMG parts command a premium, the widespread availability of authorized workshops across the GCC keeps labor competitive. This model year has already seen its steepest initial depreciation, meaning the next owner will experience a much slower value decline—typically 12–15% annually compared to the 20% seen in the first year. As a GCC-spec vehicle with a complete local history, it will always command a higher trade-in value than its North American or European counterparts.

Performance & Capability

The heart of this beast is the hand-built 4.0L V8 biturbo engine, propelling the SUV from 0-100 km/h in a breathtaking 3.8 seconds. This performance is supported by an integrated starter-generator (EQ Boost) that provides an additional 21 hp and 250 Nm of torque for short bursts, perfect for overtaking on the E11 or E311 highways. The AMG RIDE CONTROL+ air suspension with ADS+ (Adaptive Damping System) ensures that even with 21 or 22-inch wheels, the car glides over road imperfections while staying flat through high-speed bends. It features specific drive modes including 'Sand' and 'Trail,' which, while the car is primarily road-focused, allow for confident excursions to desert campsites or gravel paths. The 9-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT transmission provides lightning-fast gear changes that feel crisp and mechanical in Sport+ mode but remain imperceptible during a relaxed city commute.

Comfort & Cabin

The interior of the GLE 63 AMG S is a sanctuary of high-grade materials and advanced ergonomics designed for the GCC climate. Standard ventilated front seats are a necessity for the region, providing rapid cooling even after the car has been parked in the sun. The cabin comfortably seats five adults, with the rear bench offering ample legroom that exceeds many of its European competitors. Ambient lighting with 64 colors allows you to set the mood for evening drives along the Corniche, while the panoramic sunroof adds a sense of immense space. Acoustic privacy is maintained through thick glass insulation, keeping the roar of the V8 out of the cabin unless you specifically open the AMG Performance Exhaust valves. The dual 12.3-inch screens provide a high-definition interface for navigation, vehicle telemetry, and smartphone integration, ensuring you are always connected.

Safety

Mercedes-Benz leads the industry in safety, and the GLE 63 AMG S is equipped with the full Driver Assistance Package as standard. This includes Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC, which is invaluable for maintaining safe gaps during high-speed highway travel in the UAE. Active Blind Spot Assist and Lane Keeping Assist provide a safety net during lane changes on busy multi-lane roads like Sheikh Zayed Road. The vehicle also features PRE-SAFE Impulse Side, a unique system that can move the driver or front passenger away from a side impact by inflating the seat bolsters millisecond before a collision. With a 5-Star Euro NCAP heritage, the structural integrity of the GLE provides the highest level of protection for family occupants. Additionally, the 360-degree camera system makes parking this large SUV in tight city malls effortless and safe.

The bottom line

For the enthusiast who needs a family-sized SUV without sacrificing supercar performance, this GCC-spec GLE 63 AMG S is the definitive choice. It is a well-maintained, high-specification powerhouse that is perfectly adapted for the unique demands of life and travel in the Middle East.
