Summary

This 2023 MG RX5 Luxury represents a refined choice in the compact SUV segment, balancing high digital specifications with practical family utility. Finished in Grey, a neutral and stable color for GCC resale, this unit features the top-tier Luxury trim which significantly upgrades the cabin experience over the base models. With approximately 77,000 km, the mileage is slightly above the typical annual average for the UAE, but it reflects a vehicle well-suited for the long highway commutes common between the Emirates. For the GCC buyer, this model stands out by offering a twin-screen digital cockpit and a panoramic roof that rivals premium European brands at a much more accessible price point. It remains a strong buy for those seeking a modern, tech-forward daily driver with a proven regional service network.

This Car vs Other 2023 MG RX5s

At 77,383 km, this vehicle has been driven more than the 20,000–25,000 km annual average often seen in the UAE, indicating regular highway use which is generally better for engine health than stop-start city idling. The Grey exterior is a highly practical choice for the region, resisting the visible effects of dust while maintaining strong demand in the second-hand market. Compared to lower-mileage examples, this car offers a way to access the range-topping Luxury features at a more competitive entry point.

LUXURY vs Lower Trims

The Luxury trim is a significant step up from the Standard and Comfort models, most notably adding the 360-degree parking camera which is essential for navigating tight urban spaces in Dubai and Riyadh. Inside, you get premium leather upholstery and the 12.3-inch virtual instrument cluster, replacing the smaller displays found in lower trims. It also includes the large panoramic sunroof and a power tailgate, features that add genuine convenience and a premium feel to daily family logistics.

RX5 vs Segment Rivals

The MG RX5 leads its primary rivals, like the Haval H6 and Changan CS75 Plus, with its massive 14.1-inch vertical infotainment screen, providing a tablet-like interface that is unmatched in this price bracket. While rivals may offer larger engines, the RX5’s 1.5L turbo is specifically tuned for a balance of efficiency and urban agility, making it a favorite for city-based professionals. Its boot capacity of 430 liters is highly competitive, offering enough space for large grocery runs or weekend gear.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel economy typically ranges from 6.0 L/100km on open highways to 11.5 L/100km in heavy GCC city traffic, making it one of the more efficient turbocharged SUVs in its class. MG has established one of the most robust service networks across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, with standard service intervals every 10,000 km keeping maintenance predictable. The RX5 enjoys a respectable 3-year value retention rate of approximately 70% in the GCC market, benefiting from the brand's growing reputation for reliability.

Performance & Capability

Powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine producing 171 hp and 275 Nm of torque, the RX5 delivers a smooth 0-100 km/h sprint in 9.4 seconds. The 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) is calibrated for seamless shifts, providing a relaxed experience during long cross-border drives or daily commutes. While it is a front-wheel-drive crossover intended for tarmac, its higher ground clearance is perfectly suited for handling speed humps, sandy curbs, and uneven surfaces found in newer suburban developments.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed around a 'home-style' philosophy, featuring soft-touch materials and a vertical 14.1-inch HD screen that controls the dual-zone climate system. Rear passengers benefit from dedicated air vents, a vital feature for maintaining comfort during the peak GCC summer months. The perforated leather seats and panoramic glass roof create an airy, spacious atmosphere, while acoustic insulation helps dampen wind and road noise during high-speed highway cruising.

Safety

The Luxury trim comes equipped with a comprehensive safety suite, including six airbags (front, side, and curtain) to protect all occupants. Standard driver aids include Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Hill Descent Control, and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) which is crucial for safety during high-temperature highway runs. The 360-degree camera provides a full bird's-eye view, making it significantly easier to park safely without the blind spots common in larger SUVs.

The bottom line

This MG RX5 Luxury is ideal for a tech-savvy family or professional looking for a feature-packed SUV that handles the UAE's highway-heavy lifestyle with excellent fuel efficiency.
