Summary

This 2023 Toyota FJ Cruiser FJ2 represents the final production year of a legendary off-road icon, making it a highly sought-after model for both enthusiasts and daily drivers. Finished in classic Silver, it benefits from strong resale demand in the GCC market where its rugged reliability is legendary. With average mileage for its age in a region where long highway distances are the norm, this FJ2 is mechanically primed for both city commuting and demanding desert weekends. The FJ Cruiser stands out for its unique retro-modern styling and unmatched durability, offering a pure driving experience that newer crossovers cannot replicate. For any GCC buyer, the peace of mind provided by Toyota's vast service network and the FJ's bulletproof powertrain makes this a premier choice for long-term ownership.

This Car vs Other 2023 FJ Cruisers

With 126,000 km over 3 years, this FJ Cruiser sits at an average mileage for the GCC, where 35,000 to 40,000 km per year is standard for heavy-duty SUVs. The Silver exterior is one of the most practical and high-demand colors in the region, offering superior heat reflection and excellent value retention. As a final-year model, it carries the most refined mechanical updates and remains a high-liquidity asset in the used market.

FJ2 vs Lower Trims

The FJ2 trim is the high-spec choice that GCC buyers actively look for, upgrading the experience with a premium 10-speaker audio system and a built-in air compressor. Crucially, it adds safety and convenience features like 6 airbags (up from 2 on lower trims) and standard cruise control, which are essential for long-distance driving across the Emirates. It also includes off-road essentials like A-TRAC and Crawl Control that are often absent on the entry-level FJ1.

FJ Cruiser vs Segment Rivals

Compared to the Jeep Wrangler or Ford Bronco, the FJ Cruiser leads with its massive 159-litre dual-tank capacity, providing a significant range advantage for remote desert touring. While rivals may offer more tech, the FJ's 4.0L V6 is widely regarded as more durable under extreme heat, with parts and specialized service centers available in every corner of the GCC. Its body-on-frame construction and high approach angles ensure it remains more capable off-road than most modern monocoque crossovers.

Running Costs & Resale

The FJ Cruiser boasts some of the highest value retention rates in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, typically depreciating much slower than its American or European counterparts. Fuel consumption averages around 11.4 L/100km on a combined cycle, though the 159-litre tank ensures fewer stops during long-haul trips between cities. Service intervals are every 10,000 km, and Toyota's extensive regional network keeps maintenance costs predictable and affordable for the long term.

Performance & Capability

The 4.0-litre V6 delivers 270 hp and 380 Nm of torque, providing effortless low-end grunt that is perfect for scaling steep dunes or overtaking on the E11. Its part-time 4WD system, combined with a rear differential lock and Crawl Control, allows the driver to maintain steady momentum through soft sand and rocky terrain. With a ground clearance of approximately 245 mm, it is purpose-built to handle the most demanding GCC off-road environments without modification.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for utility and durability, featuring water-resistant seats and rubber floor mats that are ideal for cleaning after beach or desert trips. Air conditioning performance is a standout, engineered specifically to maintain icy temperatures even in 45-degree GCC summers. The FJ2's 10-speaker system provides clear audio throughout the cabin, while the unique suicide doors offer wide access to the rear seats for passengers or gear.

Safety

Safety is significantly enhanced on this FJ2 trim with a total of 6 airbags, including side and curtain bags, providing much better protection than standard versions. Active safety features include Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Active Traction Control (A-TRAC), and Rear Parking Sensors, which are vital for maneuvering a vehicle with unique visibility profiles. The robust ladder-frame chassis adds an extra layer of structural integrity during both off-road recovery and high-speed highway travel.

The bottom line

For the buyer who wants the ultimate blend of GCC reliability and legendary off-road capability, this final-year FJ2 is a rare opportunity to own a modern classic with a proven service history.
