Summary

This 2025 Changan UNI-Z is a standout choice in the growing PHEV segment, offering a modern blend of efficiency and futuristic UNI-series styling. Its Black exterior is a perennially strong resale choice in the GCC, and being a 2025 model, it represents the latest in Chinese automotive tech. The UNI-Z distinguishes itself with the Blue Whale iDD hybrid system, providing significant fuel savings for daily city commutes while maintaining a total range for long-distance highway travel. For a buyer in the UAE or wider region, this crossover delivers a premium interior feel and advanced tech that rivals established European and Japanese competitors at a more accessible price point.

This Car vs Other 2025 UNI-Zs

As a 2025 model, this UNI-Z offers the latest iteration of Changan's software and hybrid management systems. Black remains one of the most sought-after colors for the UNI series in the UAE, ensuring better value retention compared to experimental colors. With the region's high average annual mileage, opting for a current-year PHEV provides the best balance of battery health and mechanical longevity.

STANDARD vs Lower Trims

The UNI-Z enters the market with a high level of standard equipment that often surpasses the base trims of its rivals. This includes the massive 14.6-inch infotainment screen and a digital instrument cluster as standard. Buyers also benefit from the full Blue Whale iDD powertrain efficiency, which isn't compromised on the standard trim, ensuring you get the maximum 125 km electric range.

UNI-Z vs Segment Rivals

The UNI-Z competes directly with the BYD Song Plus and the MG HS PHEV. It leads the segment with its aggressive 'borderless' grille design and a larger central display than most competitors. While rivals offer similar hybrid tech, the UNI-Z's 2795mm wheelbase provides superior rear legroom, a critical factor for family buyers in the GCC.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world efficiency is impressive, with a minimum state-of-charge fuel consumption of approximately 5.15 L/100km, making it highly economical for stop-start traffic in Dubai or Riyadh. Changan has an established service footprint in the UAE via Union Motors, with parts availability increasing across the GCC. As a Chinese PHEV, it typically sees a depreciation rate of 12-15% in the first year, which is competitive for the tech-heavy crossover segment.

Performance & Capability

The 215 hp hybrid system delivers a brisk 0–100 km/h time of 7.4 seconds, providing confident overtaking power on fast GCC highways like the E11. While primarily a road-biased SUV, its 18.4 kWh battery allows for silent, electric-only operation through residential areas. The E-CVT transmission is tuned for smoothness, handling the transition between electric and petrol power seamlessly during long-distance drives.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the UNI-Z focuses on a 'technological living room' aesthetic, featuring a minimalist dashboard dominated by the 14.6-inch screen. The 5-seat layout is spacious, and the standard air conditioning system is engineered to handle extreme summer temperatures typical of the Gulf. High-quality materials and ambient lighting that syncs with driving modes create a premium atmosphere usually reserved for higher-priced luxury segments.

Safety

Safety is a priority with the inclusion of the Tianshu Intelligent Driving suite, providing Level 2 driver assistance. Standard features include adaptive cruise control for long desert highway stretches, a 360-degree camera system for tight urban parking, and multiple airbags. Automated emergency braking and lane-keeping assistance provide an extra layer of security in fast-moving multi-lane traffic.

The bottom line

Perfect for the tech-forward family or professional, this 2025 UNI-Z offers a near-new PHEV experience with a high-demand color and the region's latest hybrid efficiency.
