Summary

This 2005 Mercedes-Benz SL350 is a rare find in the GCC market, featuring a remarkably low mileage of just 56,000 km, which is far below the regional average for a car of this vintage. Finished in classic White, it offers the strongest resale potential in the UAE and wider Gulf, where light colors are highly prized for their heat-reflecting properties. As a Japanese-spec model, it has benefited from Japan’s strict maintenance culture and temperate climate, resulting in an interior and mechanical state that feels years younger than its age. The R230 generation remains an icon of grand touring, combining the security of a hardtop coupe with the freedom of a roadster at the touch of a button. For the GCC buyer, this specific V6 variant is widely regarded as the most sensible entry into SL ownership, avoiding the complex suspension systems found in larger-engine versions while maintaining effortless highway cruising capability.

This Car vs Other 2005 SL350s

At 56,000 km, this SL350 sits in a different category compared to the high-mileage examples typically found in the GCC market, which often exceed 180,000 km by this age. The Japanese provenance ensures the leather and plastics have not suffered from the decades of extreme UV exposure common in local-spec cars. The white exterior is the most sought-after color for this model in the region, ensuring it holds its value better than darker alternatives.

STANDARD vs Lower Trims

The SL350 sits as the refined entry point to the R230 range, but it lacks none of the core luxury GCC buyers expect. Unlike the higher-trim SL500 and SL600, this variant features traditional coil spring suspension rather than the complex Active Body Control (ABC) system, significantly reducing long-term maintenance costs in the Gulf. It still retains the signature Vario-roof and premium COMAND infotainment system found across the SL lineup.

SL350 vs Segment Rivals

When compared to rivals like the BMW 6 Series Convertible or the Jaguar XK, the SL350 leads with its retractable hardtop which provides superior acoustic insulation and security in UAE city traffic. The 80-litre fuel tank is a major advantage for long-distance drives across the Emirates, offering a range that outclasses many performance-oriented competitors. Its naturally aspirated V6 offers a smoother, more linear power delivery suited for refined cruising rather than the aggressive character of a Porsche 911.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption averages approximately 11.5 L/100km, which is respectable for a luxury roadster and stays efficient during highway runs between Dubai and Abu Dhabi. As a Japanese import, buyers should note that while mechanical parts are identical to GCC versions, the radio and navigation may require local software updates. Mercedes-Benz has an extensive authorized service network across the UAE and Saudi Arabia, and the SL350's simpler mechanical setup leads to lower annual depreciation than the V8 or V12 models.

Performance & Capability

The 3.5-litre V6 delivers 245 hp, propelling the car to an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h. On the highway, the 7.2-second 0-100 km/h sprint provides plenty of confidence for overtaking, while the rear-wheel-drive chassis remains planted and stable at high speeds. Unlike many modern convertibles, the SL350's weight distribution makes it a balanced grand tourer that excels on the smooth, fast-moving motorways of the GCC.

Comfort & Cabin

The two-seat cabin is a masterclass in ergonomics, featuring dual-zone digital climate control that is essential for the Gulf summer. Even with the top down, the wind deflector and cabin insulation allow for comfortable conversation at speed. The trunk offers 339 litres of space with the roof up, enough for a weekend trip to Salalah or Ras Al Khaimah, and the memory seats ensure a perfect driving position for long hours behind the wheel.

Safety

Safety is comprehensive for the era, featuring a reinforced A-pillar and a pop-up roll bar that activates in milliseconds if a rollover is detected. Standard equipment includes front and side airbags, electronic stability program (ESP), and powerful ventilated disc brakes. These systems provide crucial security during sudden stops on high-speed desert roads and maintain stability on the occasional gravel-strewn surfaces found near coastal areas.

The bottom line

This is the ideal choice for an enthusiast looking for a low-mileage modern classic that prioritizes mechanical reliability and high resale potential in the GCC market. Its exceptional condition and sensible V6 powertrain make it a rare opportunity to own a legendary Mercedes roadster without the typical high-maintenance overhead.
