Summary

This 2006 Toyota Previa GL is a masterclass in long-term durability, perfectly suited for the high-mileage demands of the GCC. With its proven 2.4L four-cylinder engine and specialized seven-seat layout, it serves as a robust family hauler that handles long desert highway stretches with ease. While the mileage is higher than average, this reflects the model's legendary mechanical resilience and its common use as a reliable cross-emirate cruiser. Blue is a distinct choice that offers a refreshing alternative to the standard white and silver, while maintaining the strong resale value typical of Toyota vans in this region. For a buyer seeking a dependable workhorse with a known history of reliability, this GCC-spec Previa remains a strategic choice.

This Car vs Other 2006 Previas

With 500,000 km, this vehicle has served as a dedicated long-distance cruiser, which is common for the Previa in the GCC market where annual travel often exceeds 25,000 km. While the mileage is high, it highlights the model's ability to remain mechanically sound well beyond typical ownership cycles. The Blue exterior is a stable resale color that provides a unique look in a market dominated by monochromatic tones.

GL vs Lower Trims

The GL trim upgrades the ownership experience with a focus on passenger comfort, most notably replacing the standard bench with second-row captain chairs for a 2+2+3 configuration. This setup provides superior airflow from the rear climate vents, a critical feature for summer driving in the UAE and Saudi Arabia. It also typically includes cruise control and steering wheel-mounted audio buttons that are often absent on base commercial-grade trims.

Previa vs Segment Rivals

Compared to rivals like the Honda Odyssey or Kia Carnival of the same era, the Previa leads in mechanical simplicity and ease of maintenance across the wider GCC. Its 65-litre fuel tank and efficient 2.4L engine provide a competitive range for the Dubai-to-Muscat or Riyadh-to-Jeddah routes. The mid-engine layout also offers a lower center of gravity, providing more stability during high-speed highway overtaking than many top-heavy competitors.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for this 2.4L powertrain averages between 9.5 and 10.8 L/100km in mixed GCC driving conditions. Maintenance is exceptionally straightforward due to the shared parts bin with the Camry, ensuring parts are available in every corner of the UAE, Oman, and Saudi Arabia. Toyota vans retain value better than almost any other MPV in the region, with depreciation significantly lower than European or American rivals at this age.

Performance & Capability

The 168 hp VVT-i engine is tuned for smooth, linear power delivery rather than raw speed, making it an ideal companion for steady highway cruising. The four-speed automatic transmission is built for longevity and handles the extreme heat of GCC summers without the overheating issues common in more complex modern units. With a full load of seven passengers, the Previa maintains a planted feel on the road thanks to its 2,900 mm wheelbase.

Comfort & Cabin

The interior is designed around the 'low, flat floor' philosophy, making it easy for children and elderly passengers to move between the three rows. The dual-zone air conditioning system is exceptionally powerful, featuring dedicated vents for the rear rows to ensure all seven occupants stay cool in 45°C temperatures. The blue exterior is paired with a practical grey cloth interior that reflects less heat than darker leather alternatives.

Safety

Safety is managed by Toyota’s Global Outstanding Assessment (GOA) body structure, which was class-leading for its time. This GL trim comes standard with dual front airbags, ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), and reinforced side-impact beams in all four doors. These features provide essential protection for family duties on fast-moving multi-lane highways like Sheikh Zayed Road.

The bottom line

This Previa is the ideal choice for a large family or business needing a bulletproof transporter that has already proven its reliability over half a million kilometers. It represents exceptional value for a buyer who prioritizes the vast Toyota service network and cooling performance over low mileage.
