• 2,268 kg maximum towing capacity
• 70-litre fuel tank capacity

Summary

This GCC-spec Explorer XLT offers a compelling balance of family utility and highway performance, featuring the dependable 3.5L V6 engine. With a seating capacity of seven and a reputable safety record, it remains a top choice for school runs and weekend road trips across the Emirates. The grey exterior is a resilient choice for the local climate, maintaining a clean look even during dusty seasons while holding its value well in the secondary market. Given the mileage and model year, this vehicle presents as a well-utilized family workhorse that benefits from Ford's extensive service footprint in the region. It stands out for its unibody comfort, providing a car-like driving experience that many traditional truck-based SUVs in this segment lack.

This Car vs Other 2013 Explorers

With 141,000 km, this vehicle sits below the typical GCC annual average of 20,000–25,000 km, making it a lower-mileage example for its age. The grey exterior is a practical high-resale choice in the UAE, offering better heat management than darker tones while hiding road dust effectively. Being a GCC-spec model, it includes the necessary cooling enhancements for local summers that imported American-spec versions often lack.

XLT vs Lower Trims

The XLT trim adds essential upgrades over the base model, including 18-inch alloy wheels and the SecuriCode keyless entry keypad, a signature Ford feature highly valued for convenience. Inside, it steps up with a leather-wrapped steering wheel, SiriusXM capability, and upgraded cloth seating. Buyers also benefit from the inclusion of the SYNC voice-activated system, which was a significant tech leap for the 2013 model year.

Explorer vs Segment Rivals

The Explorer leads rivals like the Honda Pilot and Toyota Highlander in terms of towing capacity, offering up to 2,268 kg when properly equipped. Its unibody construction provides superior on-road refinement and handling compared to the body-on-frame Chevrolet Tahoe, making it easier to maneuver in tight urban environments like Downtown Dubai. The Ford also offers a more modern, tech-focused interior layout than many of its 2013 peers.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 3.5L V6 averages around 12–14 L/100km in mixed GCC driving conditions, with better efficiency on long highway stretches between cities. Ford maintains an extensive authorized service network across the UAE and Saudi Arabia, ensuring parts are readily available and affordable. The Explorer holds its value steadily, typically seeing a 12-15% annual depreciation, which is competitive for the American SUV segment in this region.

Performance & Capability

The 3.5L Ti-VCT V6 engine delivers 290 hp, providing confident overtaking power on the E11 and E311 highways even when fully loaded with seven passengers. While road-biased, the Explorer features a capable independent suspension that handles gravel tracks and light wadi drives with ease. Its 2,268 kg towing capacity makes it suitable for hauling jet skis or small trailers for weekend adventures.

Comfort & Cabin

The three-row cabin is designed for family logistics, featuring a versatile 50/50 split-folding third row that expands cargo space significantly. GCC-specific comfort is managed by a powerful dual-zone air conditioning system with dedicated vents for the second and third rows to ensure passenger cooling during summer peaks. Acoustic glass and improved insulation help keep the cabin quiet, isolating passengers from road and wind noise during high-speed highway cruising.

Safety

The 2013 Explorer earned a 5-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA, supported by a comprehensive airbag system including the Safety Canopy side-curtain airbags. Standard safety tech on the XLT includes AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control and Curve Control, which automatically slows the vehicle if it enters a turn too quickly—a vital feature for maintaining stability on sandy or rain-slicked roads.

The bottom line

This Explorer XLT is an ideal match for a growing family seeking a safe, GCC-ready SUV with a proven V6 powertrain and a practical maintenance history. It offers excellent value as a reliable daily driver that is equally comfortable on city commutes and cross-border road trips.
