Summary

This 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL500 represents a refined entry into the R231 generation, known for its significant weight reduction and advanced all-aluminium body construction. With mileage sitting just under 100,000 km, it has been driven approximately 8,300 km per year—far below the GCC average, suggesting a well-preserved mechanical life. The Grey exterior is a high-demand, high-resale choice in the local market, offering excellent heat reflection and long-term aesthetic durability. In the competitive roadster segment, the SL500 stands out by balancing true V8 performance with the comfort required for daily UAE commuting. For a buyer seeking a GCC-spec luxury convertible, this specific listing offers a disciplined maintenance profile and the desirable bi-turbo powertrain.

This Car vs Other 2013 SL500s

While many 2013 roadsters in the UAE have surpassed the 150,000 km mark due to inter-emirate highway travel, this SL500 remains well below the regional average at 99,719 km. The Grey finish provides a distinct resale advantage in the GCC, as it maintains its luster better than darker shades under the intense local sun. Choosing a GCC-spec model ensures the cooling systems and electronics are optimized for the region's extreme operating temperatures.

STANDARD vs Lower Trims

The SL500 trim significantly elevates the experience over the entry-level SL350 by introducing the 4.7-litre bi-turbo V8, delivering nearly 130 hp more than the V6 variant. Standard equipment on this trim includes 19-inch alloy wheels, Nappa leather upholstery, and the Harman Kardon FrontBass audio system which utilizes the aluminium chassis for superior acoustics. It also features the innovative Magic Vision Control wiper system, designed to maintain visibility without the usual splash back common in high-speed highway driving.

SL500 vs Segment Rivals

Compared to rivals like the BMW 6 Series Convertible and the Jaguar XK, the SL500 leads with its versatile folding metal vario-roof, providing better cabin insulation and security than traditional fabric tops. Its 700 Nm of torque outmuscles many naturally aspirated competitors, making it a more effortless grand tourer for long stretches between Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The R231's aluminium-intensive design results in a lighter, more agile feel than the previous generation, without sacrificing the trademark Mercedes-Benz ride quality.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption is rated at 9.1 L/100km on the combined cycle, though GCC urban traffic may see figures closer to 13.0 L/100km. Service intervals for Mercedes-Benz in the UAE are typically scheduled every 15,000 km, with an extensive network of authorized centers available across Dubai, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi. As a GCC-spec V8, this model benefits from slower depreciation than European imports, typically retaining its value well within the luxury convertible segment.

Performance & Capability

The heart of this roadster is a 4.7-litre bi-turbo V8 producing 435 hp, capable of launching the car to 100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds. The 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission is tuned for smooth highway cruising but offers a Sport mode that sharpens shifts for weekend drives through the Hatta mountains. Rear-wheel drive dynamics and a lightweight aluminium chassis provide a balanced, engaging experience that remains composed even at its electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the two-seat cockpit features premium Nappa leather and a layout designed for long-distance comfort in the GCC climate. The vario-roof can be retracted in under 20 seconds, while the dual-zone automatic climate control is specifically engineered to handle high summer temperatures. The FrontBass speaker technology ensures clear audio even with the top down, and the boot provides a clever loading feature that tilts the folded roof to allow access to luggage space.

Safety

Standard safety equipment includes a comprehensive airbag system with head-thorax sidebags, Pre-Safe occupant protection, and Active Brake Assist. For highway safety, the car features stability control and high-performance xenon headlights for improved night visibility. These systems are particularly effective on the UAE's fast-moving multi-lane roads, providing peace of mind during both daily commutes and spirited weekend drives.

The bottom line

For the enthusiast who demands V8 power and German engineering without the high mileage typical of the UAE market, this GCC-spec SL500 is a strategically sound and stylish investment.
