Summary

This 2016 Hyundai Veloster GLS SR is a standout choice for urban drivers seeking a blend of distinctive style and practical efficiency. With mileage around the average for a well-kept GCC vehicle of its age, it offers a reliable ownership proposition thanks to Hyundai's extensive regional service presence. The white exterior is the most sought-after color for resale in the local market, ensuring it stays cooler in the summer heat and retains value better than darker alternatives. As the SR trim, it bridges the gap between the base commuter and the Turbo models, offering premium cabin features without the higher running costs of a forced-induction engine. Its unique three-door layout makes it an ideal companion for city life in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, providing coupe-like looks with easier rear-seat access.

This Car vs Other 2016 Velosters

With 128,000 km, this Veloster has been driven approximately 16,000 km per year, which is significantly lower than the GCC annual average of 20,000–25,000 km. The white exterior is a strategic choice for the region, offering the highest resale demand and better thermal reflection during peak summer months. It represents a well-balanced option for those who want a modern look with a proven mechanical history.

GLS SR vs Lower Trims

The GLS SR trim is a major step up from the base model, adding high-demand features like a panoramic sunroof and larger 18-inch alloy wheels that define the car's sporty stance. Inside, you benefit from upgraded materials and technology, including a rearview camera and a premium audio setup that are often missing from entry-level trims. These additions are key value drivers in the GCC used market, making the SR a much more comfortable daily driver.

Veloster vs Segment Rivals

The Veloster competes with the Kia Cerato Koup and the Honda Civic Coupe, standing out with its asymmetrical three-door design that offers superior rear-seat practicality. While rivals often stick to traditional two-door formats, the Veloster provides a larger 320-litre boot and easier passenger loading. Its 1.6-litre engine is tuned for urban efficiency, making it cheaper to run daily than many larger-displacement competitors.

Running Costs & Resale

The naturally aspirated 1.6-litre engine is highly efficient, averaging roughly 7.1 L/100km, which keeps monthly fuel bills low even in stop-start city traffic. Hyundai's massive authorized service network across the UAE and Saudi Arabia ensures that parts are affordable and maintenance is convenient. This model experiences a steady depreciation rate of approximately 10-12% annually, performing better than many European hatchbacks in the same price bracket.

Performance & Capability

The 128 hp engine provides a smooth and responsive drive, ideal for navigating tight city streets and maintaining steady speeds on the E11 highway. The automatic transmission is tuned for comfort, ensuring a relaxed commute even during heavy rush-hour traffic. While not a track car, its low center of gravity and front-wheel-drive setup offer confident handling and stability on paved surfaces.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the GLS SR features a driver-centric cockpit with a 7-inch touchscreen and dual-zone climate control designed to handle extreme GCC temperatures. The 4-seat layout is surprisingly airy thanks to the panoramic sunroof, which adds a sense of space to the compact cabin. Rear passengers benefit from a dedicated door on the curbside, a unique safety and comfort feature that simplifies life for small families or groups.

Safety

Standard safety features on this trim include multiple airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Brake Assist. The integrated rearview camera is a vital tool for parking in crowded urban areas, while the reinforced chassis design contributed to a 5-star safety rating in global testing. These systems provide essential peace of mind for high-speed highway driving across the Emirates.

The bottom line

Perfect for a young professional or student, this Veloster offers a high-spec cabin and head-turning looks with the sensible running costs of a compact hatchback.
