Summary

This 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE 63 AMG S represents a powerful entry into the performance SUV market, featuring the iconic M157 hand-built engine that is no longer in production. In the GCC, the Grey exterior offers a more discreet profile while maintaining strong resale demand compared to bolder colors. With roughly 122,500 km, this vehicle has been driven consistently and is well-suited for a buyer looking for a maintained AMG flagship that balances luxury and raw power. The 'S' trim adds a significant performance edge over the standard GLE 63, making it the definitive choice for enthusiasts. For the GCC owner, the combination of a high-capacity cooling system and a proven service network across the UAE and Saudi Arabia ensures this SUV remains a reliable daily performer in extreme heat.

This Car vs Other 2016 GLE 63 AMGs

With approximately 122,483 km on the clock, this GLE has covered roughly 15,000 km per year, which is significantly lower than the GCC annual average of 20,000–25,000 km. While many performance SUVs in the region are either garage queens or high-mileage commuters, this example sits in a sweet spot of consistent mechanical use. The Grey exterior is a staple for local resale, offering better longevity in the sun and higher demand in the used market than niche colors.

S vs Lower Trims

The 'S' trim is the peak of the GLE range, increasing output from 557 hp to 585 hp and torque to a massive 760 Nm. Beyond the engine tune, this trim adds 21-inch AMG cross-spoke light-alloy wheels and the AMG Performance steering wheel in Nappa leather/DINAMICA microfiber as standard. It also features a more sophisticated AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension with ACTIVE CURVE SYSTEM roll stabilization, which is essential for handling the weight of a performance SUV on fast-moving GCC highways.

GLE 63 AMG vs Segment Rivals

The GLE 63 S competes directly with the BMW X5 M and the Porsche Cayenne Turbo. While rivals focus on track-like agility, the Mercedes leads with its larger 5.5-litre displacement, providing a deep V8 rumble and effortless overtaking power on long cross-emirate drives. Its cabin refinement and air suspension comfort make it a superior choice for the daily commute between Dubai and Abu Dhabi compared to the firmer ride of the X5 M.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption averages around 11.8 L/100km, though this can rise to 15 L/100km in stop-start city traffic in Riyadh or Dubai. The vehicle requires premium high-octane petrol to maintain the health of its twin turbochargers. Service intervals are recommended every 10,000 km or 12 months, with an extensive authorized service network available across all major GCC cities. As a GCC-spec AMG S-model, it retains value better than base models or imported European/American specs, typically depreciating at 12–15% annually.

Performance & Capability

The hand-built V8 allows this 2.3-tonne SUV to reach 100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds, with an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h. The 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system is rear-biased (40:60), providing a sporty feel while ensuring maximum traction on sandy highway shoulders or during sudden winter rain. Multiple drive modes, including Sport+, allow the driver to stiffen the chassis and sharpen throttle response for more spirited driving.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is a five-seat luxury environment featuring ventilated and heated front seats, which are a necessity for the GCC summer. Acoustic glass and high-grade insulation keep the interior quiet and cool even when temperatures exceed 45°C outside. The standard Harman Kardon Logic 7 surround sound system provides an immersive audio experience, while the dual-zone climate control ensures rear passengers remain comfortable during long family road trips.

Safety

Standard safety features include the PRE-SAFE system, Blind Spot Assist, and Lane Keeping Assist, which are particularly valuable on multi-lane GCC highways. The vehicle is equipped with a 360° camera for easier parking in tight urban spaces and Adaptive Highbeam Assist for improved visibility during night drives on unlit desert roads. It also features 9 airbags and a 5-star safety rating from Euro NCAP (2015), providing peace of mind for family use.

The bottom line

This GCC-spec GLE 63 S is the perfect choice for a buyer who wants the peak of Mercedes-AMG’s 5.5L V8 era in a versatile SUV package that has been driven responsibly within the region.
