Summary

This 2018 Optima is an exceptionally low-mileage example for its age, having covered just 38,000 km—well below the typical 160,000 km expected for a car of this vintage in the GCC. Finished in silver, a high-demand resale color in the UAE, it offers a refined balance of fuel efficiency and cabin space that continues to rival more expensive sedans. The 2.4L engine is a proven workhorse, ideal for long commutes between emirates, providing steady power and dependable cooling. For the value-conscious buyer, this American-spec sedan represents a significant saving while delivering the modern technology and safety that defined this generation.

This Car vs Other 2018 Optimas

With only 38,000 km on the odometer, this vehicle has been driven significantly less than the 20,000–25,000 km per year average seen in the GCC market. While many 8-year-old sedans have crossed the 150,000 km mark, this example retains the mechanical tightness and interior freshness of a much newer car. The silver exterior is also a major advantage, as it is among the best-performing colors for heat reflection and resale value in the local market.

LX vs Lower Trims

The LX trim serves as a well-equipped entry point, featuring a 7-inch touchscreen with integrated Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard—tech that was often omitted from base models of rivals in 2018. It also includes essential driver aids like Blind Spot Detection and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, providing safety features that GCC buyers prioritize for fast-moving highway traffic. This trim balances necessary comforts with mechanical simplicity, avoiding the higher maintenance costs of turbocharged alternatives.

Optima vs Segment Rivals

When compared to the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord of the same era, the Optima often leads in standard technology for the price. It boasts a larger 70-litre fuel tank than many competitors, facilitating long-distance drives across the UAE with fewer refueling stops. Furthermore, the 15.9 cubic feet of trunk space provides more cargo flexibility than the Mazda6, making it a superior choice for family road trips.

Running Costs & Resale

The 2.4L GDI engine delivers a real-world combined fuel consumption of approximately 8.5L/100km, performing efficiently on the long, high-speed highways of the GCC. As an American-spec car, it offers a lower entry price while still benefiting from the extensive Kia service network available across the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Parts availability for this model is excellent and affordable due to high market volume, ensuring that long-term maintenance remains manageable even outside of manufacturer warranties.

Performance & Capability

The 175 hp output ensures a respectable 0–100 km/h time of 8.7 seconds, providing enough punch for confident highway overtaking. The 6-speed automatic transmission is tuned for smoothness, keeping the cabin quiet during high-speed cruising between cities. Drive mode selection allows you to toggle between Eco, Normal, and Sport, letting you prioritize fuel savings in city traffic or response on the open road.

Comfort & Cabin

The interior is designed for long-distance comfort, featuring an acoustic windshield that significantly reduces wind noise during highway travel. For the GCC climate, the air conditioning system is notably robust, supported by a spacious 5-seat layout with ample rear legroom for adult passengers. The driver-centric cockpit keeps essential controls within easy reach, while the 7-inch display remains clear and legible even in bright sunlight.

Safety

Safety is a hallmark of this generation, utilizing over 50% Advanced High Strength Steel in the chassis for enhanced rigidity. Standard features include a comprehensive airbag system, Blind Spot Detection, and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, which are particularly helpful on multi-lane UAE highways. Electronic Stability Control and Hill-start Assist Control come standard, providing steady handling on diverse road surfaces.

The bottom line

This is a rare opportunity to own a low-mileage 2018 sedan that feels nearly new, offering modern tech and safety for a fraction of the cost of a new model.
