Summary

This 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLE 63 S AMG represents the peak of the W166 generation, featuring the iconic 5.5-litre hand-built V8 that has since been discontinued in favor of smaller displacements. With approximately 108,700 km, this GCC-spec example sits well below the typical 150,000 km+ average for its age in the region, making it an attractive prospect for buyers seeking mechanical longevity. The 'S' trim is the one to own, providing a significant power bump and enhanced driving dynamics over the standard AMG variant. Finished in black, it occupies a prime position for resale value in the UAE market where neutral tones are highly sought after. For the GCC buyer, this model offers the perfect blend of high-speed stability for long highway hauls and enough prestige to stand out in city traffic.

This Car vs Other 2018 GLE 63 AMGs

At 108,730 km, this GLE 63 S has been driven roughly 15,000 km per year, which is significantly lower than the 20,000–25,000 km average typical of high-performance SUVs in the UAE. Its black exterior is one of the top three colors for resale retention in the GCC, ensuring it remains highly liquid compared to brighter or unconventional shades. Being a GCC-spec model, it includes the factory-upgraded cooling systems essential for maintaining peak performance during extreme summer temperatures.

S vs Lower Trims

The S trim is the definitive performance choice, extracting 585 hp from the 5.5L V8 compared to the 557 hp found in the standard GLE 63. Beyond the power advantage, the S adds standard equipment that is often optional elsewhere, including more aggressive AMG body styling, larger 21-inch wheels, and a higher electronically limited top speed. It also features a more sophisticated AMG Performance 4MATIC system tuned for better rear-biased power delivery.

GLE 63 AMG vs Segment Rivals

While rivals like the BMW X5 M and Porsche Cayenne Turbo focus on track-like stiffness, the GLE 63 S leads in sheer engine character and highway comfort. Its 5.5L displacement offers a deeper, more muscular exhaust note than the 4.4L units found in competitors, and its air suspension provides a smoother ride on long cross-emirate drives. The interior remains a benchmark for plushness, offering a more traditional luxury feel than its sportier German counterparts.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for this biturbo V8 averages around 15.5 L/100km, though this can rise in stop-start Dubai or Riyadh traffic. As a GCC-spec Mercedes, it benefits from the region's most extensive luxury service network, with authorized centers available across all major cities in the UAE and wider GCC. While high-performance AMGs see higher depreciation than standard models, the GLE 63 S holds its value better than non-GCC imports due to its engine provenance and local demand. Owners should expect major service intervals every 20,000 km with routine oil checks in between.

Performance & Capability

The 585 hp output allows this full-sized SUV to sprint from 0-100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds, providing effortless overtaking power on the E11. Equipped with AMG Ride Control and active roll stabilization, it remains remarkably flat through corners despite its size. Multiple drive modes, including Comfort and Sport+, allow the driver to sharpen the transmission and suspension response for different GCC driving environments, from relaxed highway cruising to spirited weekend drives.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is a 5-seater masterclass in luxury, featuring Nappa leather and a high-fidelity Harman Kardon surround sound system as standard. GCC-specific comfort is prioritized with powerful multi-zone climate control and ventilated front seats that are essential for the local summer. Acoustic glass and thick insulation ensure that the cabin remains a quiet sanctuary from heat and road noise, even at high highway speeds.

Safety

This GLE 63 S is equipped with a comprehensive safety suite designed for high-speed multi-lane environments. Key features include Active Blind Spot Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, and Pre-Safe Plus, which are invaluable for fast-moving GCC highway traffic. The standard 360-degree camera system makes parking this large SUV in tight city spaces effortless, while adaptive LED headlights provide superior visibility during nighttime desert drives.

The bottom line

For the enthusiast who wants the last of the big-displacement AMG V8s, this low-mileage, GCC-spec S model offers the best balance of performance, prestige, and local resale security.
