BMW 740Li PURE EXCELLENCE

Highlights

• 0–100 km/h in 5.6 seconds
• 78-litre fuel tank
• Harman Kardon audio system standard

Summary

This 2020 BMW 740Li Pure Excellence represents the facelifted G12 generation, offering the imposing 40% larger kidney grille and significant interior tech upgrades. As a GCC-spec executive sedan, it is perfectly adapted for regional highway use, where the long wheelbase provides exceptional rear-seat comfort during cross-border drives. White is among the most preferred colors for resale in the local market, helping to offset the typical depreciation seen in the luxury segment. Despite the mileage, the B58 inline-six engine is widely regarded for its thermal efficiency and durability in high-temperature environments. This listing is a compelling choice for buyers seeking the presence of a flagship BMW at a more accessible entry point for the 2020 model year.

This Car vs Other 2020 740Lis

With 190,000 km over 6 years, this vehicle reflects an annual usage of approximately 31,600 km, which is above the typical GCC average of 20,000–25,000 km. However, in the executive segment, these kilometers are often accumulated during smooth highway commutes between emirates, resulting in less mechanical wear than stop-start city driving. The white exterior is a strategic advantage for GCC buyers, offering better heat reflection and superior resale liquidity compared to darker tones.

PURE EXCELLENCE vs Lower Trims

The Pure Excellence trim focuses on a classic luxury aesthetic, adding extensive chrome exterior accents and a more refined interior atmosphere than the base 740i. Inside, you benefit from upgraded Nappa leather and fine-wood poplar grain trim, which elevate the cabin beyond the standard Dakota leather found in entry-level versions. It also typically includes the 360-degree surround-view camera and soft-close doors as standard, features that are highly valued for navigating tight parking spaces in major GCC cities.

740Li vs Segment Rivals

Compared to the Mercedes-Benz S 450, the BMW 740Li offers a more driver-centric experience while maintaining a competitive 515-liter boot capacity for family trips. Its 3.0L turbocharged inline-six is often noted for being more fuel-efficient on long desert highways than the equivalent Lexus LS 500 powertrain. While the S-Class carries a higher brand premium, the 7 Series provides a more modern digital cockpit experience and often more generous standard assistance tech for the same model year.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for this B58 powertrain averages approximately 7.5L/100km in combined cycles, though GCC summer city driving with high AC usage will see this increase. Service intervals are managed by BMW’s Condition Based Service (CBS) system, typically alerting the driver every 10,000 to 12,000 km. While flagship European sedans see a depreciation rate of 12-18% annually in the GCC, the 740Li's maintenance is supported by an extensive authorized service network across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, ensuring parts are readily available.

Performance & Capability

The 740Li delivers a refined 325 hp and 450 Nm of torque, enabling a swift 0–100 km/h sprint of 5.6 seconds for effortless highway overtaking. The standard adaptive air suspension automatically adjusts to road conditions, providing a 'magic carpet' ride quality even at sustained high speeds. Unlike its xDrive counterparts, this rear-wheel-drive configuration offers a lighter front end and slightly better fuel efficiency for long-distance cruising across the region.

Comfort & Cabin

The long-wheelbase 'Li' configuration provides significant extra legroom for rear passengers, making it ideal for family use or executive transport. Standard multi-zone climate control and high-performance AC units are specifically designed to cool the large cabin quickly after being parked in the sun. The cabin is further refined with ambient lighting and the BMW Live Cockpit Professional, which features a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch central touchscreen.

Safety

This trim is equipped with a comprehensive safety suite including Frontal Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, and Blind Spot Detection, which are essential for fast-moving GCC highway traffic. The 360-degree camera system and Active Park Distance Control help manage the vehicle's significant length in urban environments. BMW’s Active Protection system is also standard, which pre-tensions belts and closes windows if a collision is detected.

The bottom line

For the executive buyer who prioritizes rear-seat comfort and a modern flagship presence, this GCC-spec 740Li offers the best of the G12 facelift at a price point reflecting its highway-ready mileage.
