Summary

This 2020 BMW M2 Competition represents the sweet spot of the F87 generation, pairing a compact footprint with the high-output S55 engine normally reserved for the M3 and M4. The Hockenheim Blue exterior is a highly desirable color that maintains strong resale demand in the UAE's vibrant performance car market. While this American-spec example shows average mileage for its age, it benefits from the enhanced cooling systems designed for track durability, making it well-suited for the GCC summer. For the enthusiast seeking a pure rear-wheel-drive experience, the Competition trim's sharpened chassis and massive brake upgrades offer a level of precision that few rivals in the compact segment can match. Ownership in the GCC is supported by a wide network of independent BMW specialists alongside authorized service centers, ensuring long-term maintainability.

This Car vs Other 2020 M2s

With 86,000 km, this vehicle sits at the average mileage mark for a 2020 model in the GCC, where highway commuting typically adds 20,000 km annually. As an American-spec car, it offers a similar feature set to local models but often carries a lower entry price, providing a high-value route into the M2 family. The blue exterior is one of the most iconic colors for this generation and remains a strong performer for resale compared to standard white or silver.

COMPETITION vs Lower Trims

The Competition trim is a significant mechanical leap over the original M2, replacing the N55 engine with the twin-turbocharged S55 unit for a 40 hp increase. It introduces the high-performance M Sport braking system with larger rotors and fixed calipers, along with a carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) high-precision strut bar that significantly improves front-end rigidity. You also get M Sport seats with illuminated logos and dedicated M1/M2 buttons on the steering wheel for instant drive-mode switching.

M2 vs Segment Rivals

Compared to the Audi RS3, the M2 Competition offers a traditional rear-wheel-drive layout and a 550 Nm torque advantage that caters to purists seeking tail-happy dynamics. While the Porsche 718 Cayman offers mid-engine balance, the M2 provides far more practicality with its 390-liter boot and two rear seats for occasional passengers. Its upgraded cooling package also gives it a durability edge over standard hot hatches during extended high-speed highway runs between emirates.

Running Costs & Resale

The S55 engine delivers a combined fuel consumption of roughly 10.5 L/100km, though this will rise in stop-start city traffic in Dubai or Riyadh. Service intervals are condition-based, typically requiring attention every 12,000 to 15,000 km in the GCC's harsh climate to ensure oil longevity. While European sports cars see higher depreciation than Japanese rivals, the M2 Competition has developed a cult following that helps it retain value better than the standard 2 Series. Authorized service coverage is excellent across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait.

Performance & Capability

A 0-100 km/h time of 4.2 seconds and 550 Nm of torque make this one of the most explosive compact coupes on the road. The 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) provides lightning-fast shifts that are perfect for highway overtaking and spirited weekend drives. The Competition-specific chassis tuning, including a revised suspension and steering rack, ensures the car feels planted even when pushing toward its 250 km/h limited top speed.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the M Sport bucket seats are designed to hold you firmly through corners while providing enough cushion for long drives to Oman or Abu Dhabi. The dual-zone climate control is robust enough to handle 45°C+ summer peaks, and the Harman Kardon premium audio system remains clear at high speeds. Despite its performance focus, the cabin features high-quality Dakota leather and carbon fiber trim that align with its premium executive positioning.

Safety

This M2 comes equipped with a suite of safety technologies including Frontal Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, and Park Distance Control to assist in dense city traffic. The high-performance M Sport brakes provide exceptional stopping power, which is critical for safety on the UAE's high-speed motorways. Electronic Stability Control (DSC) with M Dynamic Mode allows for safety-netted fun, ensuring the car remains controllable even on sandy or gravel-strewn surfaces.

The bottom line

This M2 Competition is the perfect choice for a driving enthusiast in the UAE who wants a modern classic that balances track-ready hardware with daily usability. It offers a significant performance upgrade over the base model at a competitive price point for the regional market.
