Summary

This 2020 BMW M850i Gran Coupe is a prime example of the brand's flagship grand tourer, offering a perfect balance between supercar-level performance and executive refinement. With its mileage sitting at a healthy 50,000 km, it has transitioned past its steepest initial depreciation curve while remaining well within its mechanical prime for the GCC climate. The Blue exterior is a standout choice in a market often dominated by white and silver, providing a distinctive look that maintains strong resale appeal among local enthusiasts. As a GCC-spec vehicle, it ensures full compatibility with regional service centers and provides the cooling performance necessary for high-speed summer driving. This model is widely considered the sweet spot in the 8 Series lineup, delivering V8 character that rivals more expensive exotic machinery.

This Car vs Other 2020 M850i Gran Coupes

At 50,000 km, this vehicle averages 12,500 km per year, which is significantly lower than the 20,000–25,000 km annual average typically seen for luxury tourers in the GCC. This lower-than-average usage suggests fewer hours spent in stop-start urban traffic and more time on high-quality highways. The Blue exterior is a high-demand performance color in the UAE and Saudi markets, often commanding a quicker sale than standard monochromatic shades.

XDRIVE vs Lower Trims

The M850i xDrive adds a massive 188 horsepower over the six-cylinder 840i, completely transforming the car's personality. Beyond the V8 engine, this trim includes standard M-specific upgrades such as Integral Active Steering (rear-wheel steering), an M Sport differential, and ventilated front seats—essential for the GCC summer. It also features a 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system and Laserlight headlights that are often optional on base models.

M850i Gran Coupe vs Segment Rivals

When compared to the Audi RS7 and Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door, the BMW M850i is lauded for its superior balance of long-distance ride comfort and usable daily technology. While the AMG offers a more aggressive track focus, the BMW provides a more refined cabin experience for cross-country drives between Abu Dhabi and Riyadh. Its xDrive system is specifically tuned to provide rear-biased dynamics while maintaining the all-weather stability required for seasonal sand and rain.

Running Costs & Resale

In GCC stop-start traffic, real-world fuel consumption typically settles around 14.1 L/100km, though long highway cruises can see this improve toward 10.5 L/100km. Being a GCC-spec vehicle with a documented service history at authorized centers like AGMC or Abu Dhabi Motors significantly bolsters its resale value compared to imported models. Authorized service network coverage is excellent across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, ensuring parts are readily available for the N63 V8 powertrain.

Performance & Capability

The 4.4-litre V8 produces a massive 750 Nm of torque, allowing for effortless overtaking on fast GCC motorways even at higher temperatures. Its 0–100 km/h sprint of 3.9 seconds is achieved via the intelligent xDrive all-wheel-drive system, which manages power delivery to prevent wheelspin on sandy surfaces. The Gran Coupe's longer wheelbase compared to the two-door version adds significant high-speed stability, making it one of the most composed vehicles for long-distance regional travel.

Comfort & Cabin

The interior is a showcase of BMW’s finest materials, featuring standard ventilated front seats and a dedicated rear climate zone to keep all passengers cool in 45°C+ heat. The four-door configuration offers genuinely usable rear legroom, while the 440-litre boot provides ample space for weekend trips to the coast. Cabin insulation is world-class, effectively muting wind noise during high-speed highway commutes across the desert.

Safety

Standard safety tech on this trim includes a comprehensive ADAS suite with Frontal Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, and a high-resolution 360° camera system for navigating tight parking spaces. The BMW Laserlight technology provides significantly better nighttime visibility on unlit desert roads compared to standard LED systems. Adaptive Cruise Control and Blind Spot Monitoring are particularly beneficial for the high-speed multi-lane traffic common in Dubai and Riyadh.

The bottom line

For the executive buyer who wants supercar performance without sacrificing four-door practicality, this low-mileage, GCC-spec M850i represents a significant saving over a new model while offering the most desirable performance color in the market.
