Summary

This MG RX5 in its range-topping Luxury trim offers a compelling balance of modern design and functional SUV utility for the GCC market. With a turbocharged engine providing responsive highway performance and a fuel efficiency that stands out in city traffic, it is a smart choice for the budget-conscious professional. The black exterior holds its presence well in the region, while the GCC-specific build ensures the cooling systems are up to the task of the local summer. For buyers looking for a tech-heavy crossover that doesn't sacrifice cabin space, this listing represents a well-equipped opportunity in the compact SUV segment.

This Car vs Other 2020 MG RX5s

With 165,000 km, this vehicle has been a reliable long-distance commuter, fitting the higher annual usage typical for highway driving between emirates. The black exterior is a highly desirable choice in the local used market, often commanding faster turnaround times and stronger interest than niche colors. Being a GCC-spec model, it retains the full regional cooling and filtration package essential for maintaining long-term health in sandy, high-heat environments.

Luxury vs Lower Trims

The Luxury trim adds premium amenities that are highly sought after by GCC buyers, most notably the expansive panoramic sunroof that brightens the entire cabin. Over the standard and comfort trims, you gain upgraded 18-inch alloy wheels and high-grade leather upholstery that offers better durability against daily use. It also features a larger 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with standard Apple CarPlay, making it a significantly more modern interior experience.

RX5 vs Segment Rivals

The MG RX5 leads competitors like the Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage by offering a much higher level of standard technology for a lower entry price. Its turbocharged torque delivery provides more effortless overtaking on fast-moving UAE highways compared to naturally aspirated rivals in the same bracket. Additionally, the interior legroom and boot capacity are among the most generous in the compact crossover class, ideal for small families.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel economy is excellent for an SUV, averaging 6.8 L/100km, which helps manage costs during long commutes. Service intervals are typically set at 10,000 km, and MG has established a massive authorized service network across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, ensuring parts are always accessible. While Chinese brands initially saw faster depreciation, the RX5 has stabilized due to its growing popularity, now competing well against established Korean alternatives in value retention.

Performance & Capability

The 1.5-litre turbocharged engine produces 169 hp and 250 Nm of torque, allowing it to reach 100 km/h in 9.5 seconds. This performance is well-suited for merging onto 120 km/h highways with confidence, even when the vehicle is fully loaded with passengers. The 7-speed dual-clutch transmission provides smooth shifts, while the front-wheel-drive setup is optimized for fuel efficiency and urban agility across city grids.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed with the Middle Eastern climate in mind, featuring a powerful dual-zone climate control system with dedicated rear vents to keep all five passengers cool. The Luxury trim’s leather seats are ergonomically designed for long-distance comfort, reducing fatigue on cross-country trips. Sound insulation is notable for this segment, providing a quiet environment that effectively filters out road noise during high-speed highway cruising.

Safety

Safety is prioritized with a suite of standard features including multiple airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) which is vital for safe highway travel in high temperatures. The Luxury trim specifically includes a high-definition rear-view camera and parking sensors to make navigating tight city parking spaces effortless. It also features Hill Descent Control and an Electronic Parking Brake with Auto-Hold, providing extra security in stop-start traffic.

The bottom line

This MG RX5 Luxury is an ideal match for a GCC buyer seeking a feature-packed, fuel-efficient SUV that handles the daily commute and weekend trips with equal ease.
