MG RX8 LUXURY

Highlights

• 202 mm standard ground clearance
• 360° camera standard
• 220 hp from a 2.0L turbocharged engine

Summary

This MG RX8 Luxury presents a compelling opportunity for GCC families seeking a full-sized 7-seater without the premium price tag of Japanese rivals. With mileage at 70,500 km, it has been driven significantly less than the typical 100,000 km expected for a four-year-old vehicle in the region, preserving its mechanical longevity. The brown exterior is a sophisticated alternative to the common white and silver, maintaining respectable resale interest across the Emirates. As the top-tier Luxury trim, it provides a level of interior refinement and driver assistance that punches well above its weight in the mid-size SUV segment. For a buyer prioritizing cabin space, cooling efficiency, and modern tech, this GCC-spec example is a standout choice.

This Car vs Other 2020 RX8s

With only 70,500 km on the odometer, this vehicle sits well below the GCC average of roughly 90,000 to 100,000 km for a 2020 model. This lower usage translates to less wear on the suspension and cooling components, which are critical for reliability in extreme heat. The Brown metallic paint is a distinguished choice that holds its value well in the UAE and Saudi markets, offering a more premium look than base-model colors.

LUXURY vs Lower Trims

The Luxury trim is a significant step up from the Standard and Comfort models, adding high-demand features like ventilated front seats and a panoramic sunroof. It also introduces the 360-degree camera system and 20-inch alloy wheels, which provide both a more commanding road presence and easier maneuvering in tight city parking. The inclusion of the full MG Pilot safety suite, including lane departure warnings, is exclusive to this higher specification.

RX8 vs Segment Rivals

The MG RX8 leads its immediate segment in third-row legroom, offering a genuinely usable 884 mm of space that accommodates adults more comfortably than the Toyota Fortuner or Mitsubishi Montero Sport. Its 2,850 mm wheelbase is among the longest in its class, providing superior stability during high-speed highway cruises between emirates. Additionally, the RX8 offers a more modern 10.1-inch touchscreen interface compared to the dated systems found in similarly priced rivals.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 2.0L turbo engine typically ranges from 9.9L/100km on the highway to roughly 12L/100km in heavy stop-start city traffic. Service intervals are standard for the brand at every 10,000 km or 6 months, supported by a large authorized network across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman. While Chinese brands face steeper initial depreciation than Japanese stalwarts, the RX8 Luxury holds its value remarkably well at the 3-year mark due to high demand for affordable 7-seaters in the secondary market.

Performance & Capability

The 2.0L turbocharged engine delivers a robust 360 Nm of torque, which is essential for overtaking on fast-moving UAE highways like the E11. With 202 mm of ground clearance and selectable drive modes, the RX8 is more than capable of handling gravel tracks and light desert wadi drives for weekend escapes. The 6-speed automatic transmission is tuned for smooth shifts, ensuring a comfortable ride even when the vehicle is fully loaded with seven passengers.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the 'theatre-style' seating gives all three rows a clear view ahead, reducing motion sickness and improving the sense of space for children in the back. The dual-zone climate control is specifically engineered for the Middle East, featuring dedicated rear vents that ensure the third row remains cool during peak summer. Premium leather upholstery and wood-grain accents give the cabin an executive feel that rivals much more expensive European SUVs.

Safety

Safety is a priority with a 5-star C-NCAP rating and a comprehensive suite of six airbags protecting all rows. This Luxury trim includes advanced driver aids such as lane departure warning and a 360-degree parking view, which are invaluable for navigating the fast-paced traffic and large parking bays of the GCC. Active rollover protection and tire pressure monitoring come standard, providing extra peace of mind for long family road trips across borders.

The bottom line

Perfect for the growing family that needs maximum space and luxury features on a sensible budget, this low-mileage GCC-spec RX8 is ready for immediate daily use.
