Summary

This 2020 Pajero represents the final evolution of a legendary 4x4, offering a rare combination of under-average mileage and the most desirable GLS Rockford Platinum trim. With only 73,000 km, it has significantly less wear than the typical 80,000–100,000 km found on same-year GCC examples. Its black exterior is a high-demand resale color in the UAE, providing better value retention when it comes time to trade up. This model remains a favorite in the region because it avoids the complexity of newer rivals, relying instead on a bulletproof naturally aspirated V6 and a proven chassis. For a GCC buyer, the primary draw here is the absolute peace of mind provided by a massive local service network and parts that are available in every corner of the country.

This Car vs Other 2020 Pajeros

With 73,000 km on the odometer, this vehicle has been driven roughly 18,000 km per year, which is comfortably below the GCC average of 25,000 km for large SUVs. While many 2020 models are now entering high-maintenance mileage brackets, this example remains in the 'sweet spot' for mechanical longevity. The black-on-black configuration is specifically sought after in the secondary market, consistently commanding faster sales than white or silver units.

GLS H/L ROCKFORD PLATINUM vs Lower Trims

This top-tier trim adds the signature 12-speaker Rockford Acoustic Design sound system and the Platinum-specific chrome exterior package that defines the high-end GCC spec. Unlike the base GLS, you get the larger 18-inch alloy wheels and the specialized 'Super Select II' 4WD system with a rear differential lock as standard. It also includes the factory cool box in the center console, an essential feature for maintaining cold beverages during the peak UAE summer.

Pajero vs Segment Rivals

When compared to the Toyota Prado or Nissan Pathfinder, the Pajero leads with its superior approach angle and 'Super Select' system which allows for high-range 4WD use on paved roads—a major safety benefit during the region's rare rain and sandstorms. Its 88-litre fuel tank is specifically designed for long-range desert crossings and non-stop drives between Abu Dhabi and Muscat. While rivals have moved to complex turbocharged engines, the Pajero’s 3.8L V6 remains the most straightforward and reliable powertrain for extreme desert heat.

Running Costs & Resale

The 3.8L V6 is a robust workhorse that typically averages 13.5L/100km, though in heavy GCC stop-start traffic, you should expect closer to 17L/100km. Service intervals are every 10,000 km, and with authorized Mitsubishi centers like Al Habtoor and Galadari covering the entire UAE, maintenance is both affordable and convenient. This model enjoys one of the flattest depreciation curves in the GCC; once it hits the four-year mark, the value stabilizes significantly due to its status as a discontinued icon.

Performance & Capability

The 236 hp MIVEC engine provides reliable torque for highway overtaking and the low-end grunt needed for soft-sand dune bashing. A 235 mm ground clearance ensures it can navigate rocky wadis and steep desert inclines without risk to the underbody. The 5-speed automatic transmission features a dedicated Sports Mode, giving you manual control over gear shifts for better engine braking on mountain descents like Jebel Jais.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, you will find a full 7-seat configuration with a third row that can be completely stowed to create a massive flat-loading bay. The climate control system is world-class, featuring dedicated rear AC vents that ensure the entire cabin reaches 22°C even when exterior temperatures exceed 45°C. The Rockford Fosgate audio system is custom-tuned for this cabin, providing clear, high-fidelity sound that masks road noise during long highway commutes.

Safety

This trim features a comprehensive safety suite including Active Stability and Traction Control (ASTC), which is vital for maintaining grip on loose gravel and sand. It comes standard with six airbags, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and a reinforced monocoque body with a built-in ladder frame for maximum impact protection. The inclusion of a rear-view camera and parking sensors makes navigating tight shopping mall parking spaces significantly easier.

The bottom line

This is the ideal opportunity for a family or off-road enthusiast to own a low-mileage, top-spec version of a car that is no longer in production. It offers the best possible balance of luxury features and rugged durability currently available on the UAE used market.
