Summary

This MG RX8 represents a compelling middle ground for family SUV buyers, offering significantly lower mileage than typical for its age in the GCC market. The black-on-black color combination remains a high-demand choice in the UAE, ensuring strong resale interest when it's time to upgrade. As a genuine body-on-frame 7-seater, it bridges the gap between light crossovers and heavy-duty off-roaders, providing a robust feel that smaller rivals lack. For a five-year-old vehicle, the 43,000 km odometer reading suggests a life of light urban use rather than taxing desert expeditions. The RX8’s defining advantage is its ability to offer full-size SUV dimensions and premium features at a fraction of the cost of its Japanese counterparts.

This Car vs Other 2021 RX8s

With only 43,000 km, this RX8 has been driven roughly 8,600 km per year, which is exceptionally low compared to the GCC annual average of 20,000 km. Most 2021 models on the market will have surpassed the 100,000 km mark, making this a rare find for a buyer prioritizing mechanical longevity. The Black exterior is the most popular resale color in the region, helping the car hold its value better than lighter or less conventional shades.

LUXURY vs Lower Trims

The Luxury trim is a significant step up from the Comfort and Standard models, adding the essential ventilated front seats that are a necessity for GCC summers. It also features a larger 10.1-inch infotainment screen with a 360-degree camera system, providing much better visibility for parking this large SUV. Higher-grade leather upholstery and a panoramic sunroof further distinguish this trim, creating a cabin environment that feels noticeably more premium than the entry-level fabric versions.

RX8 vs Segment Rivals

The RX8 competes with the Toyota Fortuner and Mitsubishi Montero Sport, but stands out by offering a much wider cabin and more usable third-row legroom for adult passengers. Unlike its rivals, it comes standard with a more sophisticated tech suite in the Luxury trim, including wireless charging and Apple CarPlay. Its large 68-litre fuel tank provides a highway range that competes well with long-distance commuters like the Nissan Pathfinder.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for this 2.0L turbocharged engine typically averages around 10.1 km/L (9.9 L/100km), which is efficient for a 7-seat 4WD vehicle in GCC stop-start traffic. MG's authorized service network has expanded rapidly across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, ensuring that maintenance is affordable and parts are readily available. While Chinese brands generally face steeper depreciation than Japanese rivals, the RX8 has stabilized well in the UAE used market due to its proven reliability in extreme heat.

Performance & Capability

The 2.0L turbocharged engine delivers 360 Nm of torque, providing smooth overtaking power on fast-moving highways like the E11. With 202 mm of ground clearance and a selectable Four Wheel Drive system, it is well-equipped for weekend camping trips and light desert trail driving. The 6-speed automatic transmission is tuned for comfort, making long-distance journeys between emirates relaxed and stable.

Comfort & Cabin

The 7-seat layout is genuinely usable, with dedicated rear AC vents and a multi-zone climate control system that ensures the cabin stays cool even when temperatures exceed 45°C. The Luxury trim’s ventilated seats and acoustic glass provide a quiet, chilled sanctuary from the GCC summer heat. Ample storage and a flat-folding third row make it a highly practical choice for large families and shopping trips.

Safety

This Luxury trim comes equipped with a comprehensive safety suite including six airbags, electronic stability control, and hill descent control for steep terrain. The 360-degree camera and front and rear parking sensors are particularly helpful for navigating tight urban parking structures in Dubai and Riyadh. Active safety features like tire pressure monitoring provide peace of mind during long, high-temperature highway drives.

The bottom line

This is a prime opportunity for a family buyer to secure a low-mileage, top-tier SUV that offers high-end features and GCC-proven durability at a competitive price point.
