Summary

This 2021 MG RX8 Luxury presents a compelling choice for GCC families, offering significantly lower mileage than the typical 100,000 km expected for a vehicle of this age. The silver exterior is a top-tier choice for the region, known for its high resale demand and heat-reflective properties in the intense summer sun. As the flagship Luxury trim, it provides a premium cabin experience that rivals more expensive competitors, making it a standout in the mid-size SUV segment. For a GCC buyer, this represents a modern, feature-rich 7-seater that has been driven sparingly across its five years.

This Car vs Other 2021 MG RX8s

With just 41,999 km, this RX8 has covered less than half the distance of an average five-year-old GCC vehicle, which typically accumulates 20,000 km annually. The silver finish is one of the most practical and sought-after colors in the UAE and wider Gulf, ensuring it holds its value better than more niche shades. This specific unit sits in a unique bracket of low-mileage examples that are increasingly rare for the 2021 model year.

LUXURY vs Lower Trims

The Luxury trim is a significant step up from the Comfort and Standard models, adding essential GCC comforts like ventilated front seats and a panoramic sunroof. It further differentiates itself with a 360-degree camera system for easier parking in tight city spots and a larger 7-inch virtual instrument cluster. You also benefit from 20-inch alloy wheels and ambient lighting, features that are often missing on lower-tier variants.

MG RX8 vs Segment Rivals

The RX8 leads rivals like the Toyota Fortuner and Mitsubishi Montero Sport in terms of sheer tech-per-dirham, offering a more modern 10.1-inch infotainment screen and digital cockpit as standard. While the Fortuner is known for its ruggedness, the RX8 provides a much wider body (1,930 mm), resulting in superior shoulder room for all seven passengers. Its 2.0L turbocharged engine also offers more immediate torque (360 Nm) compared to the naturally aspirated entry-level engines found in many segment competitors.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for this turbocharged SUV averages approximately 9.9 L/100km, though expect this to increase slightly in heavy GCC stop-start traffic. Service intervals are set at every 10,000 km or 6 months, and with MG's rapidly expanding authorized network across the UAE and Saudi Arabia, parts availability is excellent. While Japanese rivals hold value exceptionally well, the RX8 has stabilized as a strong value-retention option due to high demand for affordable 7-seaters in the secondary market.

Performance & Capability

Powered by a 2.0L turbo engine producing 220 hp, the RX8 handles highway overtaking with ease and maintains stability at cruising speeds. Its Four Wheel Drive system features a real-time torque-on-demand transfer case with six selectable drive modes, including specific settings for sand and snow. With a 202 mm ground clearance, it is well-suited for weekend excursions to the desert or navigating unpaved paths between emirates.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for the Gulf climate, featuring a powerful dual-zone climate control system and dedicated rear air vents for both the second and third rows. The Luxury trim’s ventilated seats are a game-changer during the peak summer months, keeping the driver and front passenger cool on long hauls. The interior is finished in high-quality materials with leather upholstery, providing a quiet and refined environment isolated from road and wind noise.

Safety

Safety is comprehensive on the Luxury trim, featuring front, side, and curtain airbags as standard. The ADAS suite includes lane departure warning and a 360-degree camera system, which are particularly helpful on the multi-lane highways of Dubai and Riyadh. Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Hill Descent Control ensure the vehicle remains composed on both loose gravel and steep gradients.

The bottom line

This is the ideal opportunity for a family buyer looking for a near-new flagship SUV experience at a used-market price point, backed by the best resale color and exceptionally low mileage for its age.
