Summary

This 2022 BMW X5 xDrive40i in Black offers a compelling opportunity for GCC buyers, balancing four years of age with a mileage profile that suggests consistent, well-paced highway use typical of the region. The Exclusive M Sport Package is highly regarded in the local used market for its aggressive styling and premium interior upgrades, ensuring strong resale demand. As a monocoque SUV with BMW's intelligent all-wheel-drive, it provides a car-like driving experience with the elevated presence preferred for GCC traffic. A key consideration for any owner in this climate is the robust air conditioning and thermal management of the B58 engine, which is built to withstand extreme summer heat without losing efficiency. This specific configuration is a standout choice for those seeking executive refinement and proven reliability in the Emirates.

This Car vs Other 2022 X5s

With 90,000 km over four years, this X5 averages 22,500 km annually, which sits perfectly within the expected 20,000–25,000 km range for a premium SUV in the GCC. While lower mileage examples exist, this car's profile suggests it has been used for the stable highway commutes that the B58 inline-six engine thrives on. The Black exterior is a perennially strong resale color in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, often holding its value better than more niche metallic shades.

xDrive40i Exclusive M Sport Package vs Lower Trims

The Exclusive M Sport Package significantly elevates the X5 over the base xDrive40i by adding essential GCC-spec luxuries like a 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system and a head-up display. It replaces the standard 19-inch wheels with 20-inch M light-alloy wheels and includes the M Aerodynamics package, which gives the car a much more assertive road presence. Inside, the addition of the M Sport steering wheel and upgraded seat upholstery provides a tactile sense of luxury that base models lack.

X5 vs Segment Rivals

The BMW X5 leads competitors like the Mercedes-Benz GLE and Audi Q7 with its more driver-focused chassis and the legendary smoothness of its straight-six powertrain. While rivals may offer more clinical interiors, the X5 provides superior cargo flexibility with a 650-litre boot and a split-tailgate design that is highly practical for family outings. Its cooling system is also widely considered one of the most effective in the segment for maintaining cabin comfort during the height of the GCC summer.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the xDrive40i typically averages between 9.5 and 11.0 L/100km depending on the mix of Dubai city traffic and open highway driving. Being a GCC-spec vehicle, it benefits from a comprehensive authorized service network across all major cities, including Abu Dhabi, Riyadh, and Kuwait City, which is a major trust signal for future buyers. Expect a standard European luxury depreciation rate of approximately 14-16% annually, though the M Sport trim helps retain a higher percentage of its value compared to base variants.

Performance & Capability

Powered by a 340 hp 3.0-litre turbocharged engine, this X5 reaches 100 km/h in just 5.5 seconds, providing effortless overtaking power on fast-moving highways like the E11. The xDrive all-wheel-drive system and adaptive suspension ensure the car remains planted during high-speed cruising while offering enough capability for gravel paths and beach-side parking. The 8-speed automatic transmission is tuned for smooth shifts, making long cross-country drives between emirates exceptionally comfortable.

Comfort & Cabin

The five-seat layout is designed for luxury, featuring multi-zone climate control that ensures rear passengers stay cool even when external temperatures exceed 45°C. The cabin is exceptionally well-insulated against road noise and heat, featuring a panoramic sunroof that adds to the sense of space without compromising the efficiency of the air conditioning. The inclusion of the M Sport steering wheel and digital cockpit creates a high-tech environment suited for daily executive commuting.

Safety

The 2022 X5 is equipped with a comprehensive safety suite including lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and forward collision mitigation, all of which are vital for safety on high-speed multi-lane GCC highways. It also features a 360-degree camera system to assist with parking in tight urban spaces. This model carries a 5-star safety rating from Euro NCAP, reflecting its high level of occupant protection for family use.

The bottom line

For the GCC buyer seeking a premium, highway-proven SUV, this X5 with the Exclusive M Sport Package offers the perfect blend of athletic styling and regional reliability. It represents a smart opportunity to own a high-spec German SUV that is already correctly positioned for the local market's resale preferences.
