Summary

This Changan CS35 Plus represents an exceptional value proposition for anyone seeking a modern crossover that balances sophisticated technology with sensible ownership costs. As the top-tier trim, it offers a premium cabin experience that rivals significantly more expensive European competitors while maintaining the reliability expected in the GCC. The grey exterior is a highly practical choice for the region, effectively masking the fine dust common in the UAE and Saudi Arabia while ensuring strong resale appeal. With its turbocharged powertrain, this SUV provides the punchy performance needed for merging onto fast-moving highways like Sheikh Zayed Road without the high fuel consumption of larger engines. It stands out as a versatile daily driver that handles the intense summer heat with a robust cooling system and advanced interior features. For a buyer looking for a late-model vehicle that still feels contemporary and is packed with driver-assist technologies, this is one of the most logical choices on the market today.

This Car vs Other 2023 Changan CS35 Pluss

When looking at the 2023 inventory across the GCC, this particular unit is positioned as a high-utilization vehicle that has clearly spent its time on the region's vast highway networks. While the mileage is higher than the typical annual average of 25,000 km, this often indicates the car has been used for long-distance commutes between Emirates rather than stressful, stop-and-go city traffic which can be harder on the transmission and cooling components. The grey exterior finish is one of the most sought-after colors in the secondary market because it retains its luster better than darker shades under the intense Gulf sun. Compared to other listings, this being the top-spec variant means it retains the full suite of factory-fitted technology that many entry-level models lack. This vehicle offers a significant price-to-feature advantage for those who prioritize a newer model year and modern safety tech over lower odometer readings. It remains a very modern option that fits perfectly into the current automotive landscape in Dubai and beyond.

LIMITED vs Lower Trims

Stepping up to this flagship trim makes a world of difference in the GCC ownership experience, primarily through the inclusion of a comprehensive 360-degree camera system that makes parking in tight urban malls effortless. Unlike the base or mid-level trims, this version features a larger, high-resolution infotainment screen and a premium sound system that significantly upgrades long highway journeys. The interior is elevated with higher-quality materials and power-adjustable seating, providing a level of comfort usually reserved for luxury brands. Perhaps most importantly for the local climate, the air conditioning system is optimized for maximum efficiency, and the addition of a panoramic sunroof with a high-quality sunblind offers a spacious feel without compromising cabin temperature. You also get the full advanced driver assistance suite, including adaptive cruise control, which is often missing or simplified on the lower-tier variants. This trim is specifically designed for the buyer who wants the 'full' experience without any compromises on technology or safety.

CS35 Plus vs Segment Rivals

The CS35 Plus competes in a crowded segment against rivals like the MG ZS and the Kia Sonet, yet it manages to lead in terms of interior tech integration and perceived cabin quality. While many competitors in this price bracket feel utilitarian, this model uses soft-touch materials and a dual-screen layout that feels a generation ahead of its peers. Its 1.4L turbocharged engine offers a more spirited drive than the naturally aspirated units found in many entry-level Japanese crossovers, providing better torque for overtaking at highway speeds. The fuel tank capacity is generous for its size, allowing for fewer stops during cross-country trips from Riyadh to Dammam or Dubai to Fujairah. Additionally, the cabin insulation is notably better than many of its rivals, keeping the desert wind noise to a minimum. It offers a unique middle ground for those who want the reliability of a GCC-spec vehicle with the high-tech features usually found in much larger SUVs.

Running Costs & Resale

Running costs for this 1.4L turbocharged powertrain are among the lowest in the crossover segment, with real-world fuel consumption averaging impressively low figures even with the air conditioning running at full capacity. Changan has established a massive service network across the GCC, particularly in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, ensuring that spare parts are readily available and affordable. Service intervals are typically every 10,000 km, and the costs are significantly lower than those for European or even some premium Japanese brands. In terms of resale, the brand has seen a massive surge in confidence across the region, meaning depreciation has stabilized and remains competitive with established brands. After three years, these vehicles hold their value remarkably well due to their high feature density and the remaining portions of their long-term manufacturer warranties. Choosing a GCC-spec model like this ensures that you have no issues with registration, insurance, or finding qualified technicians anywhere in the region.

Performance & Capability

The standout feature of this SUV is its 1.4L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, which delivers a surprisingly responsive power delivery that makes city driving effortless. The automatic transmission is tuned for smooth shifts, prioritizing fuel efficiency without sacrificing the ability to accelerate quickly when needed. With a 0-100 km/h time that feels competitive for its class, it never feels sluggish during the morning rush hour or when merging onto the 140 km/h zones of the E11 highway. While it is a front-wheel-drive crossover, its ground clearance is ample for navigating speed bumps, unpaved parking lots, and the occasional gravel track to a weekend farm. The suspension is tuned for comfort, soaking up road imperfections to provide a stable and quiet ride for all five passengers. It is a car designed for the urban jungle, offering the visibility and presence of an SUV with the maneuverability and efficiency of a compact car.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the cabin is a masterclass in space optimization, offering five seats with surprising legroom for both front and rear passengers. The air conditioning is specifically engineered for the 50°C summers of the Middle East, with powerful vents that cool the entire interior in minutes. The seats are upholstered in durable materials designed to resist wear and tear from frequent use, while the driver's cockpit is centered around a modern digital interface. Storage is plentiful, with various cubbies for phones and water bottles, and a boot that easily accommodates a weekly grocery run or luggage for a weekend getaway to Ras Al Khaimah. The panoramic sunroof adds an airy, premium feel to the cabin, while the sound insulation ensures that the cabin remains a quiet sanctuary from the bustle of city traffic. Every touchpoint feels intentional, reflecting a build quality that has helped Changan gain significant market share in the luxury-conscious GCC market.

Safety

Safety is a paramount feature of this trim, which comes equipped with a comprehensive suite of active systems designed to protect you on the fast-paced roads of the GCC. The inclusion of an advanced ADAS system provides peace of mind with features like forward collision warning and autonomous emergency braking. For highway driving, the lane departure warning and adaptive cruise control act as a second pair of eyes, reducing driver fatigue during long stretches of road. The car is also fitted with a robust airbag system and a high-strength steel cage that contributed to its excellent safety ratings. Parking is made safe and simple by the high-definition cameras and sensors that provide a clear view of any obstacles. These features are standard on this trim, whereas many competitors require expensive packages to achieve the same level of driver protection.

The bottom line

This 2023 Changan CS35 Plus LIMITED is the ideal choice for a tech-savvy buyer who wants a modern, feature-packed SUV that is still under a very recent model year at a significant value. It is perfectly suited for a small family or a professional commuter who values safety, low running costs, and a premium cabin experience in the GCC.
