Summary

The 2022 Kia Carnival EX represents a significant shift in the family MPV segment, trading the traditional 'minivan' look for a bold, SUV-inspired aesthetic that holds its value exceptionally well in the GCC market. This 8-seater configuration offers unmatched interior flexibility, making it a favorite for large families in the UAE who need more room than a standard SUV provides. With its 3.5L V6 engine, it handles long highway drives across the emirates with ease and refinement. Black is a highly desirable color for this model in our region, ensuring strong resale prospects when it's time to upgrade. For a buyer looking for maximum space without sacrificing style, this well-maintained GCC-spec Carnival is a premier choice.

This Car vs Other 2022 Carnivals

With 87,485 km on the odometer, this Carnival has been driven roughly 30,000 km per year, which is average for family vehicles in the GCC where long-distance commutes are common. Its black exterior is a top-tier resale color in the local market, often commanding a premium over less traditional shades. Being a GCC-spec model, it is factory-prepared for the region's extreme heat and carries higher trade-in value than imported equivalents.

EX vs Lower Trims

The EX trim is the sweet spot for GCC families, upgrading from the 17-inch wheels of the LX to 19-inch machine-finish alloys for a more premium stance. It adds vital convenience features like a smart power tailgate and a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen display that significantly modernizes the cabin experience. You also benefit from tri-zone automatic climate control, ensuring every passenger remains comfortable during the peak of the UAE summer.

Carnival vs Segment Rivals

The Carnival leads rivals like the Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna by offering more standard horsepower from its 290 hp V6 and a more aggressive, SUV-like silhouette. It provides a superior cargo capacity of 1,139 litres behind the third row—more than many competitors offer even with a row folded. For families crossing the border to Oman or Saudi Arabia, the Carnival’s combination of a large fuel tank and massive interior volume makes it the ultimate cross-country cruiser.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 3.5L V6 typically averages around 10.7 L/100km, which is efficient for an 8-passenger vehicle on long GCC highway stretches. Maintenance is straightforward thanks to Kia's extensive authorized service network across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, keeping long-term ownership costs predictable. The Carnival has shown strong value retention in the region, typically losing only 8-10% of its value annually, outperforming many American-made competitors in the same category.

Performance & Capability

Powered by a robust 3.5L V6 engine producing 290 hp, this Carnival can reach 0-100 km/h in approximately 7.2 seconds—plenty of power for safe highway merging and overtaking. The 8-speed automatic transmission is tuned for smoothness, providing a refined ride even when fully loaded with eight passengers and luggage. While built for the road, its 1,587 kg braked towing capacity means it can easily handle a small boat or jet-ski trailer for weekend trips to the coast.

Comfort & Cabin

The 8-seat cabin is designed with the 'Slide-Flex' system, allowing the middle seat of the second row to slide forward for easy access to children or fold into a table. GCC-specific comfort is prioritized with dedicated rear AC vents and independent climate controls for the back rows to combat high temperatures. Double-laminated acoustic glass and thick insulation ensure the cabin remains a quiet sanctuary on high-speed desert highways.

Safety

The 2022 Carnival EX comes standard with an advanced ADAS suite including Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist and Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance, which are essential for navigating fast-moving multi-lane traffic in Dubai and Riyadh. It also features Safe Exit Assist to prevent passengers from opening the sliding doors if a vehicle is approaching from behind. With a 5-star ANCAP safety rating and a full complement of airbags, it offers peace of mind for the safety-conscious family buyer.

The bottom line

For a GCC family that needs the utility of a van but wants the presence of an SUV, this GCC-spec Carnival EX in black is a high-retention asset that is ready for immediate long-distance service.
