Summary

This MG RX8 Luxury presents a practical opportunity for families seeking a full-sized SUV with high-end features at a mid-range price point. As the flagship Luxury trim, it provides essential GCC comforts like ventilated seating and a 360-degree camera that are often optional on segment rivals. Its white exterior is a strategic choice for the region, offering the best heat rejection and maintaining the strongest resale demand in the used market. For a 2022 model, the mileage reflects consistent highway use, which is typical for the GCC and signifies a vehicle well-suited for long-distance commutes. This remains one of the few vehicles in its class to offer a genuine seven-seat layout alongside four-wheel-drive capability.

This Car vs Other 2022 RX8s

With 150,000 km, this vehicle has been driven more than the regional average of 25,000 km per year, likely on inter-city highways. In the GCC market, this higher mileage is offset by the highly desirable white exterior, which is the most sought-after color for resale in the UAE and Saudi Arabia. It serves as a mechanical advantage for buyers looking for a highway-proven vehicle that has been consistently cycled through its service intervals.

LUXURY vs Lower Trims

The Luxury trim is a significant upgrade over the STD and COM variants, adding the panoramic sunroof and 20-inch alloy wheels that define its premium stance. Inside, it introduces ventilated and heated front seats—a vital feature for the GCC summer—alongside a 360-degree parking camera and a 7-inch virtual instrument cluster. You also benefit from the 8-speaker audio system and ambient lighting not found on lower specifications.

RX8 vs Segment Rivals

The RX8 competes directly with the Toyota Fortuner and Mitsubishi Montero Sport, leading them in terms of interior tech and digital display size. While rivals often stick to more utilitarian cabins, the MG offers a more executive feel with standard leather and wireless charging. Its primary lead is in value-for-feature ratio, providing a larger 10.1-inch touchscreen and superior seat cooling compared to base-spec Japanese competitors.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 2.0L turbo engine typically averages between 9.5 and 11.5 L/100km, performing best during steady-state highway cruising between emirates. MG has established one of the fastest-growing authorized service networks in the GCC, with widespread availability in the UAE and KSA ensuring parts are easily accessible. While Chinese brands face steeper initial depreciation than Japanese marques, the RX8 Luxury trim retains value better than smaller crossovers due to the high local demand for 7-seaters.

Performance & Capability

The 2.0-litre turbocharged engine delivers 360 Nm of torque, providing adequate power for overtaking on fast-moving UAE highways. Its body-on-frame construction and 202 mm ground clearance allow it to handle gravel tracks and light desert dunes during weekend family outings. The selectable four-wheel-drive system includes specific terrain modes to manage traction effectively on sandy surfaces common across the region.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for seven passengers, featuring a dedicated rear climate control zone with vents for all three rows to combat the regional heat. The Luxury trim's leather interior is complemented by acoustic glass that helps isolate the cabin from wind noise during high-speed driving. Long-distance comfort is enhanced by the power-adjustable driver’s seat with lumbar support, ensuring fatigue-free trips during cross-border drives.

Safety

Safety is managed by a suite of six airbags and a comprehensive electronic stability program designed for varied road surfaces. Standard driver aids on this trim include a 360-degree camera for navigating tight city parking and a lane departure warning system for highway safety. The vehicle also features tire pressure monitoring, which is critical for maintaining safety during the high temperatures of the GCC summer.

The bottom line

This RX8 Luxury is ideal for a growing family that needs maximum features and seven seats without the premium price tag of a traditional off-roader. It is a smart buy for a commuter who prioritizes a high-spec cabin and regional resale strength.
