Summary

This 2023 MG RX8 Comfort presents an exceptional value proposition for families in the GCC who require a true seven-seater with genuine off-road capability. With its white exterior—the most sought-after color for heat reflection and resale value in the region—this vehicle is perfectly suited for the local climate. The mileage is consistent with average annual usage in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, suggesting a history of reliable highway commuting between emirates. Unlike many soft-roaders in its class, this model features a robust four-wheel-drive system that handles weekend desert excursions as easily as the daily school run. It stands out by offering premium-tier dimensions and features at a significantly more accessible price point than traditional Japanese SUVs. The most important consideration for a local buyer is the remaining manufacturer support and the extensive service network that MG has established across the Middle East, ensuring peace of mind for long-term ownership.

This Car vs Other 2023 RX8s

When comparing this vehicle to other 2023 models on the market, the mileage of 61,000 kilometers is remarkably typical for the GCC, where the average annual distance driven often exceeds 25,000 kilometers. This indicates the vehicle has been utilized primarily for the long-distance highway travel it was engineered for, rather than stop-start city idling which can be harder on the engine. The white exterior provides a significant advantage for a UAE or Saudi-based buyer, as it significantly reduces cabin heat soak during peak summer months and remains the strongest color for resale liquidity. This specific example has been maintained to GCC specifications, meaning its cooling systems and filtration are purpose-built for high-ambient temperatures and dust. It represents a balanced middle ground for buyers who want a modern, tech-heavy SUV that is still within its prime service window. Choosing a GCC-spec 2023 model over an imported version ensures that the navigation, radio frequencies, and air conditioning are fully optimized for the region.

COMFORT vs Lower Trims

The Comfort trim is a significant step up from the base model, introducing features that are essential for the GCC lifestyle. It upgrades the interior experience with high-quality materials and enhanced seat adjustments that make long drives between Dubai and Muscat much more pleasant. One of the most critical additions at this level is the improved climate control system, which manages the large cabin volume more efficiently during 45°C afternoons. You also benefit from a more comprehensive infotainment suite and a rearview camera system that makes maneuvering this large SUV in tight mall parking lots far simpler. The Comfort trim specifically balances luxury with utility, providing the 19-inch alloy wheels and chrome accents that give the vehicle a more premium road presence. For the resale market, this trim level is often the 'sweet spot' because it offers the high-end look and capability buyers want without the excessive price tag of the top-tier luxury package.

RX8 vs Segment Rivals

The RX8 competes in a crowded segment against the likes of the Mitsubishi Montero Sport and the Toyota Fortuner, yet it carves out a unique niche by offering more interior volume for the price. While rivals often feel utilitarian or cramped in the third row, this model provides genuine adult-friendly seating for seven, making it a superior choice for large families. It also boasts a sophisticated suspension setup that offers a more refined ride on the Sheikh Zayed Road compared to the more 'truck-like' feel of its ladder-frame competitors. Its fuel tank capacity is generous, allowing for extended range during cross-country trips without frequent stops. Additionally, the interior tech and screen real estate in this model are generally more advanced than what is standard in entry-level versions of its Japanese rivals. For the GCC buyer, the primary advantage here is the combination of modern aesthetics and a rugged drivetrain that doesn't sacrifice daily comfort.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine typically averages around 10-12 liters per 100km, depending on the balance of city traffic in Riyadh or Dubai and open highway cruising. Given the standard fuel prices in the region, the RX8 remains an economical choice for a vehicle of its stature. Service intervals are generally every 10,000 kilometers, and MG’s authorized service footprint has grown rapidly, with major hubs in every emirate and across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Parts availability is excellent, which keeps maintenance costs predictable and affordable compared to European SUVs. In terms of resale, the RX8 has shown strong value retention in the UAE market, typically depreciating at a rate of 12-15% annually, which is competitive for its class. The demand for GCC-spec seven-seaters remains high, ensuring that there is always a ready pool of buyers when it comes time to upgrade. This specific unit's white-on-beige/grey combination is highly favored in the used market, further protecting its future value.

Performance & Capability

Under the hood is a potent 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine delivering 224 horsepower and 360 Nm of torque, which is ample for confident highway overtaking even with a full load of passengers. The standout feature is the Four-Wheel Drive system with a dedicated low-range transfer case, a rarity in this price bracket, allowing for genuine off-road exploration in the dunes of Liwa or the mountains of Hatta. It offers six different driving modes—including Auto, Snow, Mud, and Sand—which recalibrate the traction control and gear shifts to suit specific GCC terrains. The 0-100 km/h sprint is achieved in approximately 9 seconds, which is more than respectable for a large SUV weighing over two tons. With a ground clearance of 202mm, it easily clears high curbs and uneven desert tracks without risk of underbody damage. The automatic transmission is tuned for smooth shifts, ensuring that long-distance drives are relaxing for both the driver and the passengers.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed with the GCC's extreme heat in mind, featuring a dual-zone climate control system with dedicated vents for both the second and third rows of seats to ensure everyone stays cool. The 2-3-2 seating layout is highly flexible, and the second row features a slide-and-recline function that allows you to prioritize legroom or cargo space as needed. The insulation is impressive, keeping the cabin quiet and shielded from the wind noise typically associated with high-speed desert highway travel. High-quality upholstery and soft-touch materials throughout the cockpit give the interior a sophisticated feel that punches above its weight class. A large 10.1-inch touchscreen dominates the dashboard, providing seamless connectivity for navigation and entertainment during family road trips. The boot space, even with seats up, is practical, and with the third row folded flat, it transforms into a massive cargo area capable of holding camping gear or large grocery hauls.

Safety

Safety is a hallmark of this model, which holds a 5-star NCAP rating thanks to its high-strength steel cage and comprehensive airbag coverage. Standard safety features include Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Traction Control, and Hill Descent Control, which are invaluable when navigating the shifting sands or steep wadi descents found in the Northern Emirates. The blind-spot monitoring system and lane departure warnings provide an extra layer of security on the fast-paced, multi-lane highways of the UAE. For families, the ISOFIX child seat anchors are easily accessible in the middle row. The braking system is reinforced with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), ensuring controlled stops even when the vehicle is fully loaded. This trim level ensures that the most critical active safety technologies are working in the background to protect your family in all driving conditions.

The bottom line

This MG RX8 is the perfect match for a growing family in the GCC that needs a rugged, yet refined 4x4 without the premium price tag of a Land Cruiser or Patrol. It is an exceptionally well-maintained example of a modern SUV that is ready for both the daily commute and the adventurous weekend road trips that the Middle East is famous for.
